Subject: for many of us... wearing a mask reminds us not to touch our face.
In reply to: and don't touch face 's message, "Washing your hands is far more effective" on 10:44:34 04/10/24 Wed

masks are also more effective if the person who is carrying the virus wears one, it keeps the cough contained and it doesn't spread as much. Less effective in "protecting against picking it up".

I work with kids, and they aren't always good at Washing their hands, not touching their faces and covering their coughs.

If you visit Japan in cold season, you will see many people wearing masks on public transit, or in large public gatherings. This happened long before Covid. There is a culture of respect there, and it would be inconsiderate to not protect others from your illness. It has been that way for a long time. Not sure why there is SUCH an extreme pushback on the idea in other parts of the world.

If I have cold symptoms, I wear a mask in crowded places to reduce the chance of me sharing my virus with others. Seems reasonable.

I had Covid very recently. It was much less impactful than when I had it two years ago... but I still lost almost a week of work, and now, a full week after testing negative again, I am still coughing and feeling some weakness and after effects. I don't think it is super "dangerous" for most healthy people now days, but it is definitely not just the usual virus. I wasn't THAT sick while I had it... but the after effects seem more dramatic than a regular old cold. I'm going to avoid it if I can. I definitely would not have been able to jump up and dance three steps of hard jig when I had covid. Walking up stairs made my heart race. Why take the chance?
