They added the advanced category for people who danced as kids and placed in prelim/open so there was a distinct separation of quality between that group and adult champs. IMO it doesn’t help the adults because without the requirement to qualify, anyone (novice, prize winner level) can enter adult champs at their teacher’s discretion.

Frankly, when I see a novice level adult on the nationals stage it disappoints me too and I’m an adult dancer myself, but I also feel that way about kids who aren’t qualified to be on a nationals stage.

If we want the organization to take us seriously, we need to take ourselves seriously.
