Subject: Obviously it doesn't account for the whole difference in WMH numbers. But my dd is a multiple time WMH from the US, and I can tell you that...

when it comes to giving high placements at Worlds, judges don't want to embarrass themselves by giving them to unknown dancers. IRE and UK dancers can travel to each other's feises and generally know the dancers in regions near their own, just like judges near our region know my dancer. We always bent over backwards to attend any feises with international judges, and once my dd was old enough to travel to international comps on her own, it really helped. Again, I'm not saying it's the only reason for the difference, but it is a factor.
