Subject: You have to understand how room blocks work.
In reply to: Mid-Atlantic running it 🙄 's message, "Why is anyone shocked? There is not a single major with a block that has EVER had enough rooms. Not one. People will be scrambling until the day before to find a room to avoid the facility fee." on 15:59:39 01/29/25 Wed

When an event like this blocks rooms, they are given an attrition numberwhich would require them to cover if those rooms aren’t blocked. So if an event blocks 1000 rooms and the attrition number is 800, and only 700 rooms in the block are booked, the event is required to pay for the 100 rooms.

When you understand this, it makes more sense why the block sells out. When the event planners have to pick a number for rooms, they would much rather have too few rooms and add them if needed, than have too many rooms and be stuck paying for rooms that aren’t being used.

This is also why I never panic about rooms. They will add more or waive the block requirement.
