Previously, there was a lot of room for interpretation but they have been rewritten and now it is very clear:

Adult Championship: This event is open to dancers aged 18 or older, who have not competed during the previous five years, except as an adult level dancer.
Advanced Adult: Anyone aged 18 or older who has previously placed in the top 3 of a Preliminary Championship IN THE LAST 10 YEARS or competed in Open Championship in the youth/& Over levels IN THE LAST 15 YEARS.

2024 SRO syllabus (see pages 8 and 9 here: https://www.quickfeis.com/OireachtasFiles/SRO/2024/Attachments/2024%20SRO%20-%20Syllabus%20-%20vNov%2020.pdf):
Adult Championship: This event is open to dancers aged 18 or older, who have not competed during the previous five years, except as an adult level dancer.
Advanced Adult: Anyone aged 18 or older who has previously placed in the top 3 of a Preliminary Championship or competed in Open Championship in the youth/& Over levels REGARDLESS OF WHEN THE COMPETITOR WAS ACTIVE.

Seems pretty clear-cut to me. It may be different elsewhere or at NANs, but this is now SRO's definition for each group.
