You can do 2 things to solve the problem of the ankle strap buckles getting pressed into your ankles:

1) Leave the buckles untaped until you are done taping everything else then very lightly cover the buckles with a piece of tape, avoiding pressing the buckle down.

2) Get some gauze from the pharmacy and fold a piece up and shove it under the buckle before taping over.

My daughter currently wears Fay’s and the straps are placed differently than her Rutherfords, so this has no longer been an issue for her. Everyone’s feet are different.
