Subject: But those are entirely different sports. Gymnastics has a code of points that routines must satisfy, in addition to difficult and execution marks and all judges scores are posted.

Irish dance doesn't have any of those things, so there's less accountability for the judges.

Yes, everyone knows who Simone Biles is, but she's executing a sport within the confines of a Code of Points which is readily available, and then marked on clearly defined parameters. Execution scores start from the same mark and are then deducted according to which flaws there are in the performance.

And basketball is a completely different sport with no judging.

There's a big issue in Irish dancing that there's no transparency on how judges judge. So while sure, identifiers might not actually matter for some judges, there's not transparency on how they're judging anyway. And when you see the same schools over and over again winning, many of which produce dancers who have different styles, it becomes even more confusing.

I for one, don't think identifiers matter as much as a lack of transparency, don't get me wrong. But I can see that when a sport as subjective at this one, if a judge recognizes that a certain school is up maybe they bump that dancer up because it's a recognizable school? Not even knowingly, it could just be a thing that unconsciously happens.
