Subject: The "Layman" excuse
In reply to: Nick T. 's message, "guaranteed low quality of ubf leaders" on 17:05:17 10/01/04 Fri

The ubf claim to be a layman minsitry is actually a cover up for the leaders being uneducated, untrained, unqualified, and unethical.

Indeed, and this is what came through in my recent talks with a UBF "missionary". I discussed a few Bible issues with them, then clearly told them that they were so lacking in basic biblical knowledge, how could they call themselves "Bible teachers"?
Guess the answer: "We're a layman ministry, and as such, we can't know everything".
So, I asked why they didn't take a course in theology in university to get some of the lacks away. Answer: "University just teaches head knowledge, nothing practical".

Ah well, I didn't get an answer to the question why they refuse to get knowledge from university when they obviously don't get ANYTHING useful in UBF, either.
But as you can see, it doesn't matter whether you're in UBF for 2 years, 5 years or 20 years - you'll be able to recite "You give them to eat" messages from Sam Lee by heart but STILL don't know the biblical definition (see Heb11) of "faith", much less it's application.

So my tip to anyone out there in UBF: give Amazon a try, check for Christian literature, you're VERY likely to make a good catch, get some used ones - for 20 bucks you can get a much broader and deeper understanding of the Bible than you'd get in 20 years of UBF!
