Fundamental to the reasoning behind behaviorism is that your environment makes you who you are. I agree with Chris in the light that your environment does not fully define who you are. A good example is the apostle Paul. Throughout his entire ministry, he was persectued, jailed, mocked, beaten, and abused. However, he did NOT become a bitter or evil person, because he made a personal choice not to believe the world around him and to trust in God and His word fully. I believe that your actions are always preceded by a choice. You can choose to sin or be obedient. You can also choose to listen to people who's opinions (or doctrines) may or may not be aligned with what is right and true. For instance, people in UBF have been systematically trained to always believe everything that their leaders say, and not to question it. However, as we know, this has caused serious problems along the way, and when people did question them, they receive much of the same treatment that the apostle Paul did. (I hope that brings comfort to some of you out there.) It is clear that they are using bad mind control tactics, and that because of the choices they make as an organization, they are not growing. I'm not even talking about numbers, just as people deepening their relationship with Christ. They can't even do that. It's really too bad.
I just thought I would elaborate a little. BTW, what does IMHO mean? I know what BTW (By the way) and LOL (Laugh out loud) mean, but I haven't figured out IMHO. Enlightenment, please?
