Another point is that when Paul refers to the image of soldiers, he refers to the life of faith of one individual believer. But he does not use the image of an army for the church and church life. He does not refer to the hiearchical obedience structures of the army, and to relationships between soldiers and ranks of soldiers, he only refers to an individual soldier and his weapons.
