The UBF leaders are using Matthew 27:11-14 to justify their silence.

11Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, �Are you the king of the Jews?�
�Yes, it is as you say,� Jesus replied. 12When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer. 13Then Pilate asked him, �Don't you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?� 14But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge�to the great amazement of the governor.

UBF leaders want people to think that they are acting like Jesus by not answering their accusers. This is misuse of scripture. Jesus was only silent when he was about to be crucified. Jesus answered his accusers many times (see Matt 9:13-15, 15:1-13, 22:15-33). Jesus' disciples also answered their accusers (see Acts chapters 2:13-41, 5:27-32, 21-25). Jesus' example was that God's people should answer accusations against them with opneness and honesty built upon the foundation of scripture. UBF leadership thus far has failed to answer for their actions. UBF leaders have followed the example of the Pharisees who refused to answer Jesus when he asked them if John, the Baptist baptised from God or man and when Jesus asked them whether it is right to let a man die on the Sabbath.
