That goes along with what I heard about Paul/David/Yonggi Cho. He has a very problematic charismatic theology and has build up a corrupt empire with himself at the top. Not so authoritarian as UBF, but much more "successful" and profitable.

Here is some background reading about his wrong theology:
www.cephasministry.com/paul_yonggi_cho.html
www.myfortress.org/PaulYonggiCho.html
wayoflife.org/fbns/occulthealing.htm

The last article concludes that Yonngi's church is "an idolatrous mixture of biblical teaching and pagan mind-techniques." Sounds very much like UBF. However, I think in UBF there is more of Confucianism (authoritarism), while the Yonggi theology has more of Shamanism (mythical thinking), though both aspects exist in both movements.

Concerning the person, it seems to me that YonngiCho is a false prophet, a false teacher and only eager for honor and money, just like Samuel Lee.

The Yonggi family is meanwhile a rich and influential clan in Korea. They not only have millions of followers, but of course also millions of dollars. BJ, I heared that one of the sons of YonggiCho owned a worldly "Playboy"-like magazine (I am not talking about Kukmin here which is allegedly a Christian magazine ;-), and still he was supported by his father. A situation like with Eli in the OT. Can you confirm?

I also heared that the Yonggi Church has build large "temples" everywhere in the world, with the biggest one in Seoul, and that the Seoul temple has a "sanctum" that nobody may enter except Yonggi.

UBFers somewhat like Yonggi's mythical/magical thinking theology. I have got a little book by Cho presented by my UBF missionary. The story about the prayer for a chair, a desk and a bicycle is in that book, I can confirm it. Cho teached that God hadn't answered his prayer about these things for 6 months simply because he didn't specicy them! Then, after 6 months, he said he heared a voice from God telling him to specify these things, then he prayed for a GOOD desk from philippinian mahogany, a GOOD bike from an american company and so on, and voila - he got all of this in 2 weeks! Then he made a general rule out of that. It is a very materialistic health&weahlth oriented gospel that Yonggi is preaching. The thing that really made me laught was how we even admitted that he had talked about his prayer and described the three things in a Sunday service before! So all the people knew about it. How naive does he want us to believe that it was a "wonder" to get exactly these three things when he virtually told all his followers who admired him that he needed excatly these things? Oh, boy. The whole chapter about the chair, desk and bicycle is completely insane. In the same chapter he even swaggers about how these three things are already in his belly like unborn children in a mothers' womb. I have not invented this. I can give you the book ISBN and the page if you want to check it. I only wonder why this moronism had been translated to German language even.
