Please don't think I want to evade your questions.
Right now I don't have more time for an in-depth answer, but I feel that you value my writing, so let me take my time later.

But I want to give you a few thoughts for now:

- Saul didn't sin against Samuel, but against Israel. Still, Samuel made it his business.
- If you read the Epistles of John carefully, you will see that even Christians still struggle with sin, and the Apostle Paul is underlining John's statement that forgiveness requires repentance.
- We do not know for certain whether the Lord has forgiven a specific person, but we can know for certain whether that person has done "works worthy of repentance" (as James phrased it)
- a person who has just repented of a sin before the Lord should be humbled under the Cross. Is a repentance sincere if there is still too much pride to admit that sin before man?
- personal sins require personal confession. Public sins require public confession.
- Sins against the Body of Christ should require a public admission of responsibiliy as well as a public apology.

No, I don't ask any of the Chicago leaders to apologize to me. But I'd be happy to see them come to the people whom they did indeed wrong (and I know a number of them) and apologize. And that apology should be done in humility, not in pride.

And yes, I would like them stop being "authoritarian". You should look up the meaning of that word. I don't suggest that they should stop being a spiritual authority (even though in the past, genuine repentance most often caused people to do that, Paul is a rare case where after his conversion, he became an authority again) - but I suggest they stop being "authoritarian".
Authoritarianism is not a biblical principle, it is opposed to the principle of mutual, brotherly love, so indeed, I would like them to drop that principle.

More to come tomorrow.

Just enjoy the Lord.

In Christ,
Mike K.
