Dear Christian Man,

I appreciate your continued thoughts and questioning on this matter.

>I find something very interesting, Like I said, I have
>been a part of UBF for about 5 years, and while I cant
>discredit those who say that they were abused, I just
>haven't seen it myself. What I am about to tell you
>all is the truth,

>I started dating a girl just before
>I came to UBF, and while the members of the church
>cautioned us to stay pure, no one has ever even hinted
>at trying to break us up or marry someone else, ever.

Great. I am glad for you. I wish this were the case everywhere in UBF. But you seem to be a very exceptional case.

>No one has ever told me to give them money outside of
>the normal parameters of what a Christian should give
>(Believe me).

Just for clarification - have they told you or suggested you to give offering money in any way?

>NO one has ever tried to pull me away
>from my family, infact many people pray all the time
>for the unbelieving members of my family that they may
>believe in Jesus (Not come to UBF, I am the only one
>in my family in UBF, although the members in my family
>can very much see my changed life from a drug addict
>and sex addict and overall punk, to a growing disciple
>of my Lord Jesus Christ).

Again, I am very glad to hear this. And I am glad about the change in your life. Again you seem to be a very exceptional case.

>Honestly, it is very hard for
>me to discern if some of you are telling the truth or
>not (I am just being honest).

Thanks for being honest, I understand that you may be confused as to whether or not you should believe what I'm saying.

>I can very easily see how things could be taken the
>wrong way by people who are exposed to the old school
>Korean missionaries who may very well be authoritative
>in nature.

You remind me of one of the American "shepherds" in my chapter who tried to defend the chapter director, saying that he is "old-school." The sad thing is, I'm not taking things the wrong way. I wanted to believe that my chapter director had godly intentions. I gave him every benefit of the doubt. But I realized that this man is truly an evil, deceptive, manipulative person.

>I pose to any of you a question, How can
>anybody force you to do something you dont want to do
>? (please do not answer with a response of
>brainwashing or brain wave manipulation, because they
>would have to be a darn good hypnotist to make me
>break up with my fionce, or leave my family, or give
>up seminary)

Please don't dismiss the brainwashing idea so easily. It exists. There are thousands of cults out there. Psychologists have documented how people can force you to do something you don't want to do. For starters, you might look at the book titled INFLUENCE, THE PSYCHOLOGY OF PERSUASION by Cialdini.

>No one there has ever even tried to do
>this! I mean it.

Mind control is done in a subtle way so that the person who is subject to it is unaware. (I'm not necessarily saying that you have been mind-controlled.)

>But I am an objective
>observer, ... and I would think that I
>would have seen or experienced at least something in
>the 5 years that I have been deeply involved. Is it
>possible, just possible that at least some things have
>been blown a little out of proportion?

I'm sorry dear friend, nothing has been blown out of proportion. I'd suggest you to call Wellspring Retreat and Resource Center, the world's experts on cults. Ask them about the history and current status of UBF. They will tell you that UBF has been known to be a mind-control organization and still is.

I know this sounds strange to you since you seem to have experienced mostly good things at UBF, and none of the bad things that I know so well. One possible explanation is that you are their "poster child" and they treat you well. The other thing I'd like to caution you about is this, where there's smoke, there's fire. You are seeing the smoke, i.e. testimonies of former UBF members about abuses. But you are doubting the existence of the fire. The fire does exist and UBF is a very abusive organization.

My prayers are with you as you continue on your spiritual journey,
