So Jesus commanded his disciples to make other disciples. And these new disciples would be disciples of whom?

That's exactly the point, Joe. UBF's concept of discipling is that Jesus was the "originator" of discipling, the man standing at the top of the discipling pyramid. He "raised" 12 disciples, who then would become "little Jesuses" for the next generation of disciples (their dicisples), until a pyramid of disciples is built up and the whole world evangelized.

But alas, this pyramid concept is completely unbiblical. Jesus explicitely forbade any such pyramid concepts in Mt 23. "But you are not to be called 'Rabbi,' for you have only one Master and you are all brothers."

The basic error of UBF is that it makes disciples of disciples and not disciples of Jesus.

Brians question "Why did Jesus raise disciples and then command those disciples to raise other disciples?" reveals another misconception, namely the Jesus commanded to "raise" disiciples. To "raise disicples" is a UBFish and unbiblical expression. Jesus spoke very neutrally about "making disciples," not "raising discipling." He also explained how this should be accomplished, with the first step being baptism (ignored in UBF), and he did never mention 1:1 Bible study, sogam writing and "sharing" and all the other UBF things. I just made a little experiment and entered "raised disciples" in Google. Guess what page popped up first: Milwaukee UBF - About us. The idea that Jesus "raised" disciples and we have to "raise" disciples like little childeren is not Christian, but UBFish or cultish (by the way, the third page listed by Google was one from the AUM cult).

I have explained these problems in detail in my article here. Brian, could you please read and comment that article?
