As people are pointing out, the problem with UBF discipleship is NOT that it is too much like Jesus' own model of discipleship. This is another common trick among those who try to defend UBF. The trick is to say that Jesus "did it like that, too." Or "Jesus was considered a cult leader, too." The point, then, becomes that UBF's model of discipling is close to Jesus' own, and UBF's only problem is that they "sometimes try too hard" or are "too strict" to follow Jesus' model. Don't fall for it.
The problem is not that UBF's way of discipling is Jesus' way of discipling as UBF would have you believe; the problem is that IT IS NOT Jesus' way of discipling, as "former" and Chris have written.
Even on things as fundamental to Jesus' model of discipling as "not lording it over others" and "being the slave of all" and "you are all brothers", Jesus and UBF are far apart.
