Subject: 7-3-2001 DB on 2 Corinthians 5:1-15
In reply to: Brother in Christ 's message, "Re: New thread on doctrine" on 09:23:05 10/25/04 Mon

During the heat of the 2000-2001 reform attempt, the July 3, 2001 "Daily Bread" based on 2 Corinthians 5:1-15 contained the following distortion:

"Since we must appear before Christ's judgment seat, we must live with a holy fear of God. This fear drives all other fears from our hearts. If we fear and love God, we live before him, not before man. Because we fear God, we sometimes do things that look foolish to men. But God's people must not judge by outward appearances, but by what is in the heart. God's servant doesn't expect fellow believers always to understand his actions, but they must know that his motives are not selfish. He is trying to please God and build up God's flock."

The use of the singular "God's servant" is interesting here. Through the internet at that time many of Samuel Lee's unethical, illegal, cruel, sadistic, ungodly and unChristlike behaviors had been exposed. The DB writer's message (probably Sarah Barry's message) was don't judge the actions; judge the motives. The same message was being repeated by UBF apologetes such as Daniel Hong at that time. So then, the actions of Samuel Lee and other "Servants of God" are not to be held up to the light of truth, i.e. moral absolutes. Instead, according to UBF, we should judge their actions based on their "motives", a dangerous and misguided teaching that has bourne much rotten fruit.

In that DB, there is also the error of a clear segregration between "God's servant (singular)" and others in the church.
