On his website, Brain boasts that there is no financial abuse in his chapter. He says that the money is taken care of by a "board of elders." He doesn't mention that this "board of elders" does not regularly meet and does not exist for 99% of the time, at least from 1990 to 2000. When it is convened at the director's whim it is only to rubber stamp something he has decided before hand. The director picks the "board of elders" and conveniently leaves out senior members who might have dissenting opinions.
Once in 2000 director wanted a thousand or fifteen hundred dollar bonus for some reason in a hurry. So, he picked a board of elders who gave it to him. Is this financial abuse or not?
Also, there are other incidents I could talk about that are taken for granted in Toledo UBF as being OK, but would make any other organization blush such as the awarding of gifts and payments and the amounts at the total discretion of the director.
Once, when I complained about the problems of UBF, the director pulled a check for five hundred dollars out of his pocket and gave it to me. It felt like a bribe so I gave it back. Is that financial abuse?
There are other incidents, maybe I will talk about them.
