Subject: Guilt based
In reply to: PECAS 's message, "Re: Mark 1:35..." on 20:36:43 11/29/04 Mon

I have found that in my UBF, most people did not want to have a rigid absolute requirement to come to the prayer meeting every morning. However, we did not say anything because they do not want to appear unspiritual. We simply repented every Friday for not coming to the early morning prayer meeting.

This is one of the many factors why I would call UBF a "guilt-based ministry". There are burdens put on the shoulders of the members which are too hard to bear, and failure is merely a logical consequence - so, the members are made feel guilty for not conforming to the standard, and because they desire to really serve the Lord wholeheartedly, they are made feel inadequate. They are being bound to the UBF "ministry" because if they don't get this kind of pushing (which really is merely abuse, but who can see that?) they are afraid their spiritual life will slack off more and more, they are in bondage.

What UBF does not tell you that Paul's demand "unceasingly pray" in 1The doesn't mean that we should spend 24/7 in prayer meetings, but that our daily life (including shopping, working, chores, driving etc.) should be a life of communion with Christ, i.e. living out our relationship with our Lord.

In Christ,
Mike K.
