I think I remember reading some of your posts here and also at the Celebrity Obits board. So I'm glad to meet you.
Now, as far as being a Republican basher--yep, I am one and I won't apologize for it.
I live in the state of Texas and I certainly remember W. Bush when he was governor, before he was Selected by the Supremes as president. He was just starting his 'tax cuts for the rich' and cuts in Social Services policies when he was our 'guvner'. During the late 1990s, a friend of a friend of mine had been at a Republican rally, had met W. and, after the rally, had accidentally overheard a private conversation W. was having with some friends. W. had said that if he were to be elected president, one of the first things he wanted to do was to avenge his father by taking out Saddam Hussein--anyhow, anyway he could. This was WAY before September 11, 2001. Afterwards, I just KNEW that W. was going to assassinate Hussein sometime during his presidency but I NEVER dreamed W. would use the excuse of Al Quaida and September 11th to invade Iraq and stay there!
I've always been interested and concerned for our environment and animals, and when I had read that Veep Cheney was deciding in Spring of 2001, behind closed doors, OUR US energy policy, I knew something bad was about to begin--like making all kinds of decisions for US and about US behind closed doors and US having to wait YEARS to find out what actually was done to US and our country (which of course was to try to get as much federal land to be used as OIL fields, strip mining and logging, and to stop pollution controls of Big Business, PLUS warrantless wiretaps, loss of Habeus Corpus (temporarily) and outsourcing of thousands of our jobs).
I am mad at Republicans because they are a pack of HYPOCRITES! They proclaim to be 'christian' but they are the most UNchristian people I've ever come across. They claim that they are concerned about everyone, yet they don't want to help you if you need it. They cut services for the poor, uninsured, unemployed and us 'common folks' while BILLIONS in tax cuts were given to the rich, BILLIONS were wasted on the totally UNnecessary Iraq invasion (by no bid contracts a la Halliburton and KBR), BILLIONS were wasted in banking bailouts ($350 Billion which I doubt we'll ever see again or find out how it was spent). How crazy is it that over the past 8 years the rich have almost doubled their wealth while the rest of us have lost at least 20% of our spending power--the top 800,000 rich people have as much wealth and spending power as the bottom 150 MILLION of Americans and so many people have lost their jobs, their homes and their dignity?
And what about DEregulation of the businesses, banks and Wall Street; them being allowed to 'police' themselves? Republicans claim they hate government interference, but we can all see what happened when they let the DEregulation policies continue to go full speed ahead. GREED, stealing unsuspecting people's money, and the almost total collapse of our Economy were the results--all because Republicans hate the government to stick its nose in their 'business'.
During the past 8 years the Republicans almost succeeded in destroying our country. They wanted to make us into a country of 'haves and have mores' and the rest of us to pay their bills; but it didn't have enough time to succeed--thanks be to God! But they've left us with a mountain of debt and a world that doesn't like us or our actions. They had their Neo-Con dream of the "Project for the New American Century" agenda (PNAC), basically taking over the world's governments, natural resources and morals by the end of a gun, starting in the Middle East--but it Failed and Failed so miserably now no 'compassionate conservative' will even admit there ever WAS a PNAC agenda.
I really WISH Republicans would come here to this board and explain what their party is all about and why they allowed their president and their politicians to do this to us, but I doubt that now is the right time. They're too busy praying and hoping that President Obama fails in his Stimulus Bill that will bring us new jobs, new environmental policies, new technologies and get our economy working again. They all seem to be 'lock-step' and 'follow the leader' types who can't think for themselves; but the rest of us have the confidence that we WILL get out of the mess they made and turn our country into a REAL Democracy!
