If you are judging a performance, you should be judging a FIRST IMPRESSION.

Maybe something was rotten in the state of Denmark ("Hamlet") and, let me tell you, something appears to be rotten in the state of "American Idol."

I think one of its appeals is the fact that this is LIVE TV. Paula could not do a retake.

Her attempt to explain that she got confused and meant David Cook was totally off-the-mark and not consistent with what she had said about him.

This was not a minor gaffe. This was a mistake of major proportions and if there is no plausible explanation other than what I have speculated here then it undermines the entire premise of the show: namely that, flawed or not as the show may be, the judging is HONEST.

As Ricky Ricardo might say, I think some "splainin'" is in order, amd FAST!
