Subject: With all due respect, I think Barbara made a mistake

My take on the Chronicler/SP brouhaha

There are too many messages on the other board about Chronicler and S.P. (Scroll Patrol). I wanted to voice my opinion there but it's already too unwieldy.

So I will do it here, briefly and honestly.

I do not condone what Chronicler did. However I do think he was sincere in his apology. I think he should be cut some slack instead of people trying to analyze whether he was sincere or not. I think he is terribly embarrassed about it and that's understandable. But I don't think that what he did is a terrible crime.

I think that Barbara does a wonderful job monitoring that board. But in this case I think she made a mistake.

Instead of outing Chronicler, if I were her I would have posted this message:

"To SP: I know who you are. I ask you to please cease and desist from your messages. If you do not do so, I will have no recourse other than to make people aware of what the situation is."

Had she done this there would have been no embarrassment and I think Chronicler would have taken the hint and just stopped.

I can sense how upset Barbara was about this and I understand what she did.

And I probably agree with Barbara about 98 per cent of the time.

In this case, I beg to disagree.

I think you are right. I honestly don't think Chronicler meant any harm. He probably thought he was being helpful. Of course, he kept doing it long after a vocal minority made it clear how much they hated it. He probably should've just let it go (NT)Much ado about nothingSat, April 05, 2008 9:16:12
