| Subject: I don't blame Doris and let's cut her some slack. I post only occasionally on the other board. It intimidates me as well. |

I lost interest after somebody named James, who used to post as "Smarty Jones," got banned because he had the nerve to criticize "Happy Reaper" for his or her choice of a forum name.
I personally thought the whole thing was silly but yet I could see James's point, that "Happy Reaper" would often reply to horrible tragedies using that name and it gave an impression that he or she was "happy" about the tragedy, though that was not the case.
People on that board were very nasty to James and that's when I personally lost interest in posting there.
Then there were Howard Stern posts that caused flaps.
I don't always agree with Doris. But I totally agree with her point about the Slim Whitman thread.
Does it really do any good to have a thread remain that says "Slim Whitman has died" when we all now know that he did NOT die?
It God forbid this happened with a major political figure -- a thread that erroneously started with "So and So has died" that Barbara would immediately pull the thread if it were determined it was not the case.
I agree with Doris. Leaving that thread up is absolutely foolish. All it will take is for someone (a troll or a well-meaning person) to post a reply to it and all of a sudden "Slim Whitman has died" will be back on top.
Don't get me wrong, I love reading the other board. It is a great source of information.
But I am very offended with some of the tasteless messages that constantly appear there which, if any families of the deceased read them, probably hurt them even more in their grieving process.
Go ahead, make fun of Doris (and sometimes I want to do that to though I refrain from doing it) but she has a damned good point about "Slim Whitman has died" and, quite honestly, I don't think Barbara seems to get it.
I applaud Barbara for the fact that millions have visited her board and that speaks volumes. But that does not make me feel that she or it should be immune to constructive criticism. I also realize that what is appropriate and what is not appropriate is basically one person's opinion.
Nevertheless I feel the need to speak out here, even if most do not agree with my comments.
I hope the other board stays up for many more years. Barbara does a wonderful job. I would give her an "A minus" as a grade and that is a wonderful compliment.
Admittedly I focused in the minus here, but only because I think that Doris has laughed at too much, even when she makes good points. And I don't fault her one bit for staying away from the other place. It's her choice and I think she has a good reason. It can really be a hornet's nest, for sure.
