Well, first of all it would be nice if you could spell the man's name correctly. Now, what do you perceive to be the responsibilities of HC's athletic director? Whatever you reply, I hope it doesn't include having significant roles in recruiting or in seeing to it that particular players are admitted. Look to the office on Mahogany Row catty-corner to that of the President and to the coaches/assistants for those elements. Hiring coaches? Certainly. As the prior post indicates, under Regan's watch, Willard and Gilmore were brought on board. He brought back Paul Pearl after he left for prep school and has kept Elvis Comrie. Field Hockey took the PL chamionship in 2001 and lost the title game the last two years. There are many reasons why the talent isn't better overall ( possibly marketability to athletes, for example)but to blame at the feet of the athletic director just isn't right. Far too many of the factors involved in fielding consistently successful teams are out of his control.

Regan's first four years have been eventful and productive ones. During this period women's basketball has advanced to the NCAA tournament by winning the Patriot League championship three times. In 2001, after an eight year absence, the men's basketball team returned to the NCAA tournament, a feat it repeated in 2002. The 2001 season marked the first time in the Patriot League's ten year history that one institution won both the men's and women's basketball championship. Field hockey has continued to prosper by winning the League championship in 1998 and 2000, and finished in first place in 2001 before being upset in the League tournament. Women's soccer advanced to the NCAA tournament in 2000 and the men's soccer team finished in first place in 2001, losing in the championship game on penalty kicks after four overtime periods. In an effort to further increase the number of Crusader teams coached by full-time staff members, Regan announced the appointment of a full-time coaching positions in track, volleyball, women's lacrosse and softball. Gender equity has been a major focus of Regan's administration and he introduced the College's first two new varsity sport in more than 15 years - - women's ice hockey and women's golf.

In addition to his duties on campus, Regan has become involved in college athletic policy on a national scale. In the fall of 1999 he was appointed to a four-year term as a I-AA representative on the NCAA Division I Management Council. The Management Council, comprised of 49 athletic administrators and faculty athletic representatives from around the nation, reports directly to the NCAA's Division I Board of Directors. The Council is responsible for adopting operating bylaws and rules to govern Division I, interpreting Division I bylaws, reviewing recommendations from the Division I conferences and universities, and developing and implementing the Division I budget.
