I had a shot given in the dreaded diaper position. I remember being really sick once with the flu or pneumonia when I was 4 years old. I had already been to the doctor earlier in the week, and they gave me amoxicillin to take twice a day. Well, it wasn't working, and mom called the Dr. She prescribed a shot of penicillin. My cousin Mandy was an RN. Rather than having to get me out of bed, they let Mandy come by my Dr's office to get the shot, and come to my house to give it to me. I didn't know I was in for a shot, and I hated them. Mandy and mom came to my room. Mom pulled my underwear down and raised my legs, and I watched Mandy getting something out of her duffle bag. I thought she was going to stick a thermometer up my butt, because mom had been taking my temperature the same way all that week. What I got was a total surprise. I felt Mandy wipe cold alcohol on my left butt cheek. The I felt a sudden pinch, and intense burning. I screamed to the top of my lungs, and I couldn't move away because my legs were being held. It was over quick, and mom held me until I cried it out. Mandy said "I'm sorry sweetheart." The intense stinging melted away to a warm throbbing soreness. My butt was still hurting when she left. I started getting better that night, and Mandy came back over in the morning to keep me for a few hours while mom went to the store. She came to my room and pulled my underwear down. I started crying because I thought she was going to give me another shot. She raised my legs like mom did and said "It's alright darling", and I felt a thermometer go up my butt. It didn't hurt, and I calmed down. But to this day, I hate getting shots.
