I had my temperature taken rectally until about age 11. They used a old fashioned glass mercury thermometer. It was in the 80's and early 90's.

I never had my temperature taken rectally as a punishment.

My wife had her temperature taken rectally at the hospital 12 years ago. I not sure of the type of thermometer used.
