Subject: We have sickness again Author: Shelly [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: Tuesday, April 14, 2026, 05:56: pm Well my youngest and sitter are both in bed with head aches, muscle aches, fever, and they won't eat or drink any thing. My little guy stayed home from school yesterday and sitter had some one bring her and her car here after school. We have been doing cool enemas to manage the fevers and to keep them hydrated. Most likely a virus so no advantage to taking either one to the Dr. I haven't done rectal temps in a very long time but they are both hovering right around 102.5 to 103 rectally so I've been checking them several times. They both have had two small cool enemas today to mitigate the fevers. I make them hold the enema as long as they can and then the commode chair is right beside their bed for them to slip over on to empty. Sitter wants back rubs and attention. It's pretty sweet. I know when I was sick even though my relationship with my stepmom was not super strong I just wanted attention from her full time non stop. I didn't even care if it was rectal temps or enemas or just sitting with me for a few minutes I just wanted to be cared for and comforted while I was so sick. Sitter is just like that. She just wants me to be with her to comfort her. Little guy not so much. Doesn't care for the rectal temps or enemas because it's from the mean mom! They still don't want anything to eat. Fevers are just a little above normal rectally now. Going to try to get a few sips of some tea down them here in a little bit and warm enemas for both. Enemas when I was growing up and I was sick was in a way comforting and made me sleepy so I could get a nap. The other three of us are crossing our fingers we don't get it. My oldest is already upset because tonight is enema night for him and sitter won't be able to give it to him. Sitter is very clingy, wants attention like any sick child wants from their mommy. I gave her a long scalp massage in the middle of the night to comfort her. I think if she were a kitten she would have purred! She liked that so much. And can even transmit that way to others from the feces. Typical flu virus will load up in the colon also so it helps the body fight the virus by getting what you can out of the digestive tract with your enemas. That is one more area the body doesn't have to attack it as well. You do need to be vigilant in cleanliness with the enemas and clean up. If the child felt up to it we always try to do nice soaking baths too. Or give them a wash cloth bath in bed. In our family the sick child always tolerates having enemas too because they just crave the attention and it in fact does make them sleepy. They almost always get a nice nap afterwards. Warm enemas usually also mitigate headaches because the headache in a sick child is most often from them being dehydrated. Be vigilant with them with clean ups. Got the oldest to bed a couple of hours ago. Just gave sitter another enema. Maude I think that is a good idea. I think I'll go in and see if she would like a wash cloth bath. She is getting a little stinky. I'll shave her too. She hasn't been up to shaving since she was sick and she already had a little stubble when she had her first enema the other night. I've helped her with shaving around the anus a few times and she appreciates it even though she waits for me to offer to do it instead of asking me to for her. She likes being baby butt smooth like so many girls do this generation. Right Kitten Paw? So we got the head aches taken care of with the first enemas so you are right Maude they were just dehydrated. Hydration is always a good first step to help with headaches. Well hopefully I can go to bed soon and get some sleep. I am wore out, just exhausted. When you are weakened like I am you are very susceptible to even smaller exposure to a virus. They both had a nice bath today. Sitter wanted to do her own shaving which I'm glad she felt up to it. No enemas today but we will do one at bedtime. Getting drinks and nourishment in both. We went to a different pediatric Dr. A young guy. I told him we had just come out of a flu like sickness with my little guy. We talked about his symptoms and I was honest about the enemas. He was totally into it. The cool water enema to mitigate high temps. And hydration control through enemas because both had head aches which often signal dehydration and neither of them could keep even water down. Then I told him about sitter and her issues and that I was raised on regular maintenance enemas and I had put both our boys on regular maintenance enemas. He was raised on maintenance enemas growing up. He said he never missed a day of school until he moved out to go to college and would not continue his own enemas because he hated them but now he knows they kept him from so many illnesses growing up and is totally for regular enema clean outs for all his patients if he thinks his moms will listen to him but most don't want to talk about it. He sees little kids that have pooping issues and like in their adolescent years and he will ask the mom when the kid pooped last and they have no idea. They often are bed wetters, an x-ray often shows they are full of stool and often a digital rectal exam shows stool just sitting in their rectum. Or they are the encopresis kids and are having runny bipass poops because they have an obstruction. We had a very long talk about kids backed up with poop and he supports my little guys not being allowed to join that group. Awesome young Dr. He hated enemas growing up but supports and encourages them now. [ Post a Reply to This Message ]
