Subject: Dr. says "underpants", I say "briefs" and that's the 'bottom line".

The resurgence of "house calls" by doctors is upon us! I have seen a number of ads where if you are sick and want a house call you can set one up, though you might need to go through your primary as I did under the circumstances I relate.

My regular primary care doctor was unavailable but I received a call from her nurse who told me that my strep throat culture results returned positive. She said if I wanted to, I could call a referral service and have a house call made, but just give them the number to my doctor's office for verification and confirmation I was the patient and what I'd need for the visit.

The next day a young about 40ish year old female physician showed up at my apartment. She identified herself, explained that she'd been contacted by my primary's office and arranged to take me as her patient.

After a number of questions, she told me that yes, my strep results were positive, and I'd be getting antibiotics in the form of injections.

Rather than go into the bedroom she said she could do her exam and injections in the living room.

She looked at my throat first, then took my blood pressure and checked my pulse, and listened to my chest through the opening in my robe while I sat on the edge of the couch.

She said I could remove the robe and that she wanted me to lay on my stomach on the couch. She hadn't said where I'd be getting the injections when she mentioned I needed them.

As I laid there she announced "I'll need you to lift your hips slightly, so I can pull your "underpants" down, and take your temperature".

Though a bit surprised I complied. She had my briefs down and immediately after lowering them, parted my cheeks and placed a fairly well lubricated digital thermometer in my behind. It wasn't inserted too long.

The thermometer beeped, she removed it and read it, telling me I was running a temperature of 101.4F. I had started to reach for my briefs to pull them back up, but she told me I needed to remain where I was with my "underpants" lowered so she could give me my injections.

First my left cheek, then my right one was swabbed with isopropyl alcohol. Each cheek got a good dose of antibiotics delivered with 18g needles about 1 1/2" - 2" long, and they went into my gluteal muscles. The medication burned like crazy. She re-swabbed my buttocks and told me I could pull up my "underpants". Hopefully the strep is knocked out of my system.
