Now a doctor would not visit home usually, only 40 years ago, they did visit homes. I know because our family doctor gave me an enema at home too.

Forty or fifty years ago things were different. I remember Dr Emory, in Brooklyn, NY coming to our house for me or my sibs and sitting at out kitchen table having a cup of my mom's coffee afterward. She probably had some biscuits or an apple pie baked that he sampled.

I don't recall him actually giving any of us an enema himself, as my mom would have done that as a matter of course, probably before she went to a neighbor's house to use the telephone to call him. Things were so far different it is hard for people today to understand.

An enema was a very common first treatment for everyting this side of a broken arm. That and a mustard plaster. We got those home remedies until I left home.
I remember once my brother and sister and i all had some flu or something as did my cousins who lived nearby.
For some reason we were all moved into my cousin's house so we could be treated together and the Dr came to that house several times.
We had mustard plasters on our chests and enemas as well as hot showers one after another. There was some kind of "epidemic" going around. And when the Dr came he gave everyone a shot.
