"The things I thought were so important, because of the effort I put into them, have turned out to be of small value. And the things I never thought about, the things I was never able to either measure or to expect, were the things that mattered."

yes, I attended Park Street school, Hiawatha, then Summit Street, then Fleming (1/2 day sessions - it was called something else then?), then the middle school out on Maple Street (the name escapes me at the moment) and then the high school. Basically every school in the Junction except Marvin Heights, and you, guest?

The school's name is Albert D (as in duh) Lawton. I don't re-call Tim ever going to Hiawatha? Mike Tortarella did, as did Tom Jones, and of course Bill Duton. Gary Valway used to be real mean to Tort. So the school let (released) Tort out 15 minutes early, in order to get a head start home. Tom Jones had a bad habit of looking up miss Chapin's skirt. She finally caught him and took him to the principal's office, Mr. Hymen was his name, (kinda of ironic, huh?). He (Tom) got a good whipping by Hymen for his infraction. I always liked Tom. Glad to be of help.

Where the hell do you think you're going?!

I agree, Tom was a very funny guy. He cracked me up. I was at Heeawatha for one year, 4th grade with Mrs Taft, I believe. But I also had math with Mrs Heald 'cause I think they made us change rooms? We had 3rd graders in the class too because Essex was growing so fast; jeff brooks, aka Spike was in my class. John Quimby used to give me rides around the playground on his shoulders. The next year was at Summit, 5th grade, and then the split sessions in 6th grade at the Fleming school (what did they used to call this school, Mr knowsalot?).

Split sessions were great! Jon Nealy and I would be out for the day at noontime. We used to ride my stingray, double, down Pearl Street and make a wide swing onto School Street and pray that there were no cars coming! Then we'd go down and collect snakes off of Cascade Street where I lived; this was the last dirt road in the Junction, otherwise known as the 'dump road.'

Prospect Street School, I was in Mr Gazo's class in 4th grade it think or Seavers, in with all the other undiagnosed AD&HD kiddos ie Bill Dunton Jay Liberty Chris Hill Tom Barnier(god rest his soul)Pat Rooney Jim Bushey Mike Tortorella and the list goes on... Bill Dunton shut Mrs Heald in the classroom closet and nobody let her out too funny, I do believe he was the one who also pulled off Mrs Binghams wing, looking up dressing was just elementry for our class, we put poor Mrs Lunderville well on her way to the funny farm in 6 grade at Prospect Street School, Mr Baker was a trip, math class consisted of watching racing in forward then watching it again in reverse.

prospect street, of course!

yes, Mrs Lunderville put up with a lot. I used to bring my pet snake, Herby with me, in my pocket into her class. It made all the children laugh and play to see a snake at school and she never knew the difference.

the guest must be Joe, 'cause I've heard him tell that story about shutting the teacher in the closet, but I thought it was Randy Francis that did that? The guest could also be Mal, 'cause those kids were all in the class of '76, excepting Tort, and my guess is his mom kept him back to protect him from those guys.

I'd like to talk with Mike, he was a courageous guy when you think about how bad he got bullied in school. I could see him becoming a 200 pound state trooper somewhere that wouldn't take no crap from anyone! God bless Michael Tortarello!

ah, it could of been Randy but Billy was quite a guy too, and yes I remember Mal, Joe I can not recall Randy and I had lots of mischief togther, and Mike has grown up to be quite a handsome man saw his mom recently and she filled me in on his family and her daughters family complete with pictures, I used to go over Mike's house alot, his mother always hoped we'd marry one day they really were a very nice family. Mike used to tell me he could turn off his bedroom light and get in bed before it went off. And yes she did keep him back a year. I think I remember that snake would of been right up my ally. Its really fun reading all the stuff on your site and seeing whats going on in everyones life, take care Tim, a friend from waaaay back still in VT

my first thought was Patty M? She lived in the neighborhood, but I can't quite picture her hanging out with Mike. You've got me stumped guest? The Joe I was thinking of wasn't Mendicino, it's the webmaster here and at boysweekend, Joe Ketcham, who lived in Greenwood, a few neighborhoods away.

Luddite, maybe you could help determine who the mystery guest is here? Not sure if the portrait above is a clue or, not; or if the gal in the background with the high heels and the gun is kin, or just a real close neighbor?

good grief, that is creepy! you think the first 'guest' was different from the 2nd 'guest' then?

the first guest knew the actual correct spelling of Dunton, prounouned Dutten. The girl visiting Tort threw me off too. maybe we should delete this whole thread if it gets any creepier?

I just stumbled upon this site looking for Vt. pictures. I have a picture of Mrs. Yates Kidnergarten class of which I can name 6 kids who went straight through school and graduated together. Tim do your remember anyone from K-class. I have a hard time remembering any of my teachers names. Mr. Untterman 6th grade in Summit. Also Mrs Lunderville made me stay after school and practice my handwriting. Mrs. Chapin in the trailers. The only time I remember Bill Dunton getting into trouble was in jr. year Mr. Adams grabbed him by the shirt front and nailed him against the wall in United States History class.

Hi Laurie!

Thanks for stopping in.

I had to call my mom to see if she could confirm Mrs. Yates! I know Jon Nealy was in the class, 'cause I remember riding sometimes in his mom's Plymouth Valient with the push button transmission on the dash. I can picture the room with the little table and chairs where we ate lunch and the living room where she'd let us take our milk in the little cartons. It must have been a private kindergarten 'cause it was in a private residence, I think. Wow, that was a long time ago! I'm wondering if Dorothy Hunter and Mary Boutin may have been in that class? I can't remember anyone else, except Sue Mahoney, who was my first girlfriend.

I'd love to see the photo! Joe Ketcham, your old next door neighbor, says you could scan it and e-mail it to us and we could post it. Joe manages this site, the boysweekend site, the ejhs76 site, as well as a number of other sites.

Thanks again for visiting the sites and posting your name. Hopefully it will spark some more activity at the ejhs site. Do you have any guesses at who the mystery guest, above, who was a friend of Michael Tortarello might have been?
