This really will be quick, I swear.

I thought the whole purpose of debate was identical to extemp- to persuade a judge or audience to accept your stance on an issue. So how does extemp more keenly develop persuasion skills?

And John brings up the point that debate has the additional challenge of not only persuading a judge to the truth of your side, but also to the falsity of your opponent's' side.
