I think that the leaven & lump metaphor is exactly to the point. As any one who is familiar with baking knows, once a lump of dough is leavened, there is no way to get the yeast out. The way that it is purged is that one throws the whole lump out and starts over again. But I think that the whole you are talking about is much bigger than citizen Lee's poison-leavened lump of dough. I think that you are talking about the Church. Just because UBF provided the context for you to experience God, Chris, doesn't mean it should be preserved. There is nothing in UBF that doesn't exist in a better form outside of it. Give the word of God credit, not UBF. As for those precious people in UBF, the only compassionate thing is to give them the support they need to leave. People have been attempting to reform UBF for a long time. Meanwhile, for every person who gets something positive from UBF there are many more recieve a bitter taste. And then there are those, who, to paraphrase Jesus, they make twice as much a son of hell as they are themselves.
