Subject: Has anyone heard of the Phantom Edit? EP1 with JarJar edited out.
In reply to: Abba's Son 's message, "Jar Jar Binks and Jesus Christ related through Lucasaen-theology?" on 14:42:08 12/11/02 Wed

Supposedly, even G.Lucas has seen the edited version, though, I can't quite remember what he thought of it.

Nikki sends us a link to a piece on The Phantom Edit in the Toronto Star:
Star Wars rumours are like the urban legends about the crocodile in the sewer or the chihuahua in the microwave. They always sound true but rarely stand up to close scrutiny.
Which is why I raised a cautionary eyebrow when I first read the breathless Internet reports about The Phantom Edit, a supposedly professional-quality remix of The Phantom Menace, the over-hyped Star Wars prequel. It was wishful thinking to believe someone had gone to the trouble of editing out most of the scenes of the frog-faced Jar Jar Binks, the offensive and childish Stepin Fetchit stereotype that wrecked the movie for many fans, including me.

It was also suspicious that everyone was talking about The Phantom Edit but nobody was circulating it on the Web - not in any obvious way, at least. All of the Web wizards I know hadn't seen it; most of them hadn't even heard of it. Usually when something this big breaks, it's all over the Web the day after.

There has been a ton of reaction to the series we've been running on the Edits, if you've missed them hit the Rebel Rouser and stay tuned for many more editorials and perspectives on both sides of the issue.
