Hi there Ian, Glacier Bay is a great place! And it is a great opportunity to fly fish for Salmon.. July is Sockeye month, and they can be caught in the loacal streams using a sink-tip line, a short 6 foot leader, 3X tippet and a fly called a Sockeye Jon. Sure, egg sucking leeches work fine, but I like small stickle back minnow paterns the best..You can find the cecipes in a book named "The best 1000 Flies" soft bound $24.95.. As for gear, Sockeye run about 6-8 pounds and fight like 20 pounders! Your rod should be 9 ft. 7 or 8 weight, a good reel with a palmable rim and a decent drag, depends on your budget. I would recommend an Orvis Battenkill 7/8, $110.00 CAN'T beat it. Dependable, great value. 100 yds of backing and a weight forward sink-tip line with a number III rate and you're in'em..Ian, there is no one line that is going to satisfy all the situations you will encounter however if you have to go there with one rod and one line and one reel that would be my choice. feel free to contact me via e-mail. Best Fishes!! Bob Searle
