The old bird gave one last caw barely heard before its body burst into flames, the whole tree being swallowed up with it. The fire danced along the the branches, tendrils of it reaching out toward the foliage and the weary group of travellers. The blazing heat, they could feel upon the skin. There was a screech and a magnificent bird rose up out of the ashes of its own ashes. Plumage of brillant colors, that of its flames. Tail long and curled. It circled once eyeing the travellers before giving a caw in outrage having its territory invaded.
