There were some great matches- RVD and Regal was surprisingly good, given their different styles, and I think RVD will be a legitimate main eventer very soon. The tag team tournament was alright, but it's just the same old thing week in week out...maybe its time to put a couple of big name singles wrestlers in a tag team and push the division that way.
But there were two enormous pieces of news. Has Steve Austin left the WWF? According to wrestlezone, he was unhappy with the direction of his character since the introduction of the NWO, and was supposed to lose to Scott Hall at Wrestlemania after the interference of Vince McMahon. This would have given the push to the roster split, but Austin didn't want to do this, and it looks as though he's walked out. This could be very interesting.
With the incredible reaction to the Rock / Hogan match (and despite my previous misgivings, it was a great match), there's a lot of booking happening on the fly at the moment, it seems. The Rock was getting booed for beating on Hogan...it was a genuinely surprising moment, and it was done really well, even if I disagree with it. So now the NWO are a couple of guys in their early 40s, one of whom isn't really in any shape to wrestle. The NWO angle ran for years in WCW, and at least in the beginning was an incredible idea (before the whole red / white division). The WWF has given it just over a month before leaving it effectively dead in the water.
I didn't see the main event, as the video ran out after three hours, but it didn't surprise me. Jericho can have great matches, but he's not had many while he's been champion. Did he win a single match clean during his reign? There's no point fearing a man who has to cheat to get all his wins.
