I have to agree with Monkey on this one. Steve Austin seems to think he is bigger than the sport, and I'll give you three very good examples, one from a few weeks ago, two from a few years ago.
Firstly, he was supposed to lose to Scott Hall, due to interference from the back, which would have given Linda McMahon some reason to spark off the roster split on Raw the next night. Even though it's one of the most important things the WWF has ever done, Steve Austin refused to lay down to Scott Hall (who at least isn'rt as embarrassing as the other NWO members) and then stormed off crying about "misuse of his character".
Secondly, he wouldn't give up the belt to Triple H when Triple H was just exploding with popularity. He didn't feel it was believable for some reason, so dropped the belt to Mankind in a triple threat match and then Mankind lost the belt to Triple H the next night.
Thirdly, and more generally, there's his unwillingness to lay down for anyone. My earliest recollection of this is his submission match with Brett Hart where he passed out rather than quit, and then there's first blood matches and all the other stupid stip matches he's been involved with.
The roster split is going to give some wrestlers who have talent in spades to have a chance- Tommy Dreamer, Justin Credible, Raven, Big Valbowski, we might even see uber-worker Edge main event something (god knows the guy deserves it). I'm sick of seeing the same people do the same things and am looking forward to some new people and new storylines.
