As a kind of punk/indie connoisseur, I can assure you that The Ataris *had* to cover 'Boys of Summer'. It's a law that punk/emo bands MUST cover 80's classics. Typically punk bands don't record covers as singles, however Sony is whoring them out fairly well. (Okay, and I own the first 4 Ataris albums from their indie days...don't all gang up on me at once.)

Uncle Kracker... *sigh* have you seen the video for that song? I don't know what it is, but something about that video strikes me as hilarious.

Speaking of which... you know what I don't get? Cover bands. You know, bands that ONLY play cover songs. What's the point? As Henry Rollins once said, "Great. I know a guy who can do 'Play That Funky Music' AS WELL AS Wild Cherry." (If you haven't seen Rollins' spoken word show, you MUST...I'm not big on his music, but he's a fascinating guy.)

Even worse... Tribute bands. They just strike me as... terribly sad. You know those guys go home and cry every night that they're never going to be Gene Simmons.
