Isn't having a "law" ("rule) in punk/indie music kinda...UN-punk like? ;o)

Why not do a more obscure 80s song tho..."Boys of Summer"??? That's arguably one of the BIGGEST songs of the 80s.

Haven't seen it.

Rollins is great, but I even take what he says with a grain of salt. I read an interview with Neil Finn a few years ago, and I *think* he mentioned Rollins as someone who would diss MTV, but when Finn would go to the MTV studios, he'd see something signed by Rollins saying "Thanks for all your help!" I could be wrong about it being Rollins, but it was definitely about a popular musician along those lines.

I can't stand cover bands and tribute bands as well. Long Island is FULL of cover bands. Local clubs and bars will have on the marquee: DAVE MATTHEWS BAND - tribute - ants marching. I think a Bon Jovi tribute band (a thought unto itself that should make all shudder) called Bad Medicine actually uses a picture of Jon Bon Jovi (or someone who looks eerily like him) to promote the shows in local free music papers. There is some kind of law that clubs and bars have to sign an agreement/contract so that the bands/artists that are actually being 'covered' get paid a royalty, but I believe that this law isn't heavily enforced. So you have people making their livings off of performing the songs someone else wrote, and the person who actually wrote the songs gets nothing. For me, I picked up the guitar because I wanted to learn how to write songs, not how to play someone else's. "I'd rather fail with my music, than succeed with someone else's," - Eddie Van Halen
I can appreciate that people want to hear songs they know, or are interested in hearing two hours of the music by one band/artist performed by live musicians, but is it right for other people to make $$$ exclusively off of someone else's work?
