'Stingy clients' blamed for closure of first brothel for women

Europe's first brothel for women has closed after just three months.

Owner Calvin Koenig claims too many women simply refused to pay after services at the Swiss establishment.

The 31-year-old's team of men charged about £200 an hour.

His bordello in the village of Leibstadt, which was packed with young men, is now boarded up and the hired guns - who called themselves The Angels - have all gone home.

Mr Koenig has been arrested and charged with robbery, following an alleged incident across the border in Germany.

Police say Mr Koenig told them: "Me and the boys would service all these women and they wouldn't pay.

"Our prices were clear - 600 marks for an hour, regardless of whether we just talked or got down to it. But many, many women just refused to pay.

"It was a good idea, but women are just stingy."

Mr Koenig is accused of crossing the border and holding up an elderly couple for £300. He faces up to five years in jail if convicted.

Story filed: 11:15 Friday 18th January 2002
