Newlyweds split after five hours

A newlywed couple split up before their wedding reception had finished.

Michael Shiels and Rose Henry's marriage lasted just five hours. The couple, from the US, wed in Ireland.

Mr Sheils said his wife became 'cold' towards him within an hour of them exchanging vows. The pair will seek a divorce.

The groom, a 34-year-old a sports writer from Michigan said, "She told me the act of getting married made her realise she couldn't be married."

"She wouldn't sit next to me at the brunch and wouldn't sit next to me at the dinner that night."

"We are not kids this was not an impetuous decision. We had started the relationship 14 months before the wedding."

"The coldness started within an hour," reports the Daily Mail.

Mr Shiels has a five-year-old son and Miss Henry, 35, has two children. Both had been married before.

He had wanted to return immediately to the US, but his bride persuaded him to be a 'good sport' and continue their honeymoon holiday so as not to ruin their family's fun.
