In reply to: Varmit 's message, "I could walk you out there and be close to the spot. I was there the day he got killed. Trevor didn't have much luck this week there. Broke his rope in the calf roping yesterday. Steer got up in the steer roping day to win the event. Not sure what happened to him in the team roping." on 20:21:01 07/27/08 Sun

CHEYENNE -- Rookie saddle bronc rider Julian Whitcher may never walk again.

The Scenic, S.D., cowboy who was injured during Monday's Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo performance has been declared a quadriplegic, his aunt, Gail Micek, said Sunday.

The 24-year-old was airlifted to Denver Health and Medical Center on Monday evening and has undergone a pair of surgeries. He is breathing on his own, but he isn't able to move his arms or legs after suffering an injury to his C7 vertebrae.

Whitcher is awaiting a room at Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colo. Craig specializes in treatment of spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries.

"We just ask that everyone pray for him and our family," Micek said.

Anyone wishing to contact the Whitcher family should feel free to contact Gail and her husband, Michael, Micek added.

  • Do you recall what chute he came out of? Was chute 0 and 00 there back then? How far out in the arena was it or was it next to the fence or chute? (NT) -- ZD, 12:52:17 07/28/08 Mon
