Subject: Varmet, some people just have no clue. I have a really good friend that has had more cattle longer than I have. He doesn't have a clue about working cattle. If he is helping you be sure to find him a job he can do in his pickup. He can spook cattle in the pasture or in the lot and not even try.

I have a neighbor that has had a cow of mine for over a month. His cows are wild and flighty. He tries to pen them by butting feed in a trap and hoping he can come back later and shut the gate.

I started calling his cattle to the gate and got my cow and 4 of his to coming up for cubes regularly. I simply called the 5 out on the road and drove them in my lot which is near his gate. I cut out my cow and pened her off and turned his cows back on the road and then called them back in their own gate. Took about 10 min a day to train them for 4 days and about 20 minutes to sort out the visitin' cow. I had been waiting for over a month for him to git-R-done. She's due to calve on 9-21 with a high priced embryo and I have to send her home on 9-8. If I had waited on him the calf may have been half grown before I got her back.

I still have some screw worm mail in bottles and you'd be surprised how many people ask what they are when someone goes through my collectible pile. Same thing with Bangs. Some ranchers don't know any more now than they did when we were trying to get it cleaned up.
