There is a person down here who has lots of rope horses and he has this kid that has been roping for quite a while and what I am told he is pretty tough. They sent him out to Ok and Texas to go to some ropings with a couple of horses. Guess he been hanging around Cooper bunch. He called back and said he also met a guy who said to tell him hello, but he couldn't remember his name. So they threw some names at him and he finally said, " Yeah, that was his name, Jetton."

I think the first time I noticed that was somewhere around 25 years ago when somebody mentioned Dean Oliver at a roping practice for HS kids. I was surprised at the people that never heard of him, even the parents who were helping their kids,. I think I might have mentioned before when our boys would go to Arizona ran across an older guy who subbed some good bucking horses down there and saw him lots of times and really took a likeing to him. All they knew was his name was Dennis, and he would give them the straight scoop on his horses. I got them to ask what his last name was and it was Reiners. They never heard of him and his acomplishiments, but only knew him from those rodeos down there. I think most rodeo kids will know Ty Murray, but wonder how many have heard of Larry Mahan. - Ty and Larry stay in the spotlight. Not sure if Ty does on purpose, but Larry does. As long as they are on TV and in articles I think they will remember them for awhile. Kinda like Shoulders, he never missed an opportunity to be in front of a camera, so kids new about him. But bet if you asked them about Phil Lyne or Tom Ferguson, they would say who?...An old rodeo clown who just broke out some new acts called my mom a few days ago and said he worked Caldwell and he said the only person I knew was Dean Oliver.   - Here's one for ya. Tom Reeves and Kelly Wardell had a school here last month and the Dad of one of the kids in Tom's school called me and said he met Tom and all he knew about him was that his men's team is the currant college champs, and didn't have a clue who Kelly was.       - In fairness, it's that way with most things. Not all basketball players are a Michael Jordan, even tho they might have been one of the best ever. I wonder if Babe Ruth is the most remembered of all, including sports, or any other types of well known people.
