Subject: New Mexico Cattle Growers Assn. was lobbying hard againts this Death Tax for that very reason Varmit. There is enough killing 4th and 5th generation ranches without them dying because someone died.

  • Varmit, my objection to eleminating the estate tax is that I don't think it's fair for my kids to compete with the rich kids that will inherit 100 times what they do. Without the inheritance tax success can be defined pretty much by membership in the luckey sperm club. I am wealthy by most any working man's standards but my kids will not inherit millions tax free like the President's daughters will. It just seems to me there ought to be more to becoming rich than just being born. I worked for and earned every thin dime I have and I want my kids to have it when I die. I don't, however, want them to have to compete with Cheney's daughters in a world where those 'trust fund babies' can have the best of everything from birth to death without putting out any effort on their own. The old story about ranches failing because of the estate tax is a rural myth. If you like I wil explain it. (NT) -- ZD Ranch, 15:59:13 06/09/06 Fri
  • Well I disagree with you on the myth deal.... I know for a fact of a family that lost it all because none of the kids names were on the deed when they passed away... and I know the man who bought the ranch... he owns miles and miles of ranch country in Florida.
