Subject: Grandma's, Grandpa's and rodeo

And I thought my turning 4 year olds on Monday, grandson was the only one who went from one thing to another in a matter of minutes.

From an article:

When Forrest McGrew grows up he wants to be a cowboy, a fire fighter or an Army guy.

He changes his mind a lot, he said.

Saturday, the 4-year-old Windsor pre-schooler got his first chance at the cowboy side of his inspirations.

"It was like ... a ... like ... a ... sheep," Forrest said excitedly. "It was runnin' and runnin' and I was holdin' on tight. And I fell off. He goes really fast."

Forrest was one of many involved in the Buckfest youth bull riding competition, put on annually as part of the Windsor Harvest Festival by former Windsor cowboy Kevin Rich.

Forrest participated in the mutton bustin' show, which tests the riding skills of smallest cowboys and girls on top of a sheep -- or as Forrest put it: Hang on tight for as long as you can.

Forrest left the day satisfied with his 78 score and glad his mom and dad told him about it because his grandpa and grandma are cattle ranchers in South Dakota, and he wants to be just like his grandpa.

The hardest part was holding on, but was he scared?

"No," he said with out any hesitation and full of excitement. "I play basketball, baseball, tennis ball and soccer."

Since his 5th birthday is during the Harvest Festival, the chance to compete was an early birthday present, he said. But he also planned to spend the weekend playing on the "jumpy things" at the park and going to Friday's fireworks.

But the best birthday present was still to come: "Grandpa and Grandma," he said. They were expected to arrive later that day.

Although it took only a few seconds for Forrest's cowboy turn to end, he quickly turned his attention back to just being "almost 5" again, dancing around the bleachers and playing in the sand while the "big boys" took their turns.
