I live right outside of the biggest natural gas discovery EVER! The Barnett Shale. They are drilling wells all the way from the city of Ft. Worth down to the county line and just a bit beyond. They can and do, do it safely and don't polute anything but the road between Ft. Worth and Houston with all those trucks taking the fluids that they fracture those horizonal legs on those wells that are nearly 2 miles deep. The mineral rights are worth now what the land and minerals were worth 5 years ago. It looks like it's gonna miss my ranch by 25 miles. What luck? -- RODEO RAMBLINGS

- Actually, Varment, I have been told that they drilled 3 wells from one drill site and plan on 2 more without moving the rig. This is just South of Ft. Worth. These wells are for gas and they don't have to be straight. All of these wells have horizontal legs that penetrate the Barnett Shale and then they inject some sort of slick chemical and water and fracture the shale. That's what makes it give up it's gas. Then the gas just comes wooshing out of the ground. These wells are supposed to be long lived but slack off. Is it just fate that the well slacks off about the time the gas company gets out enough gas to pay for the well? (NT) -- ZD Ranch, 08:54:33 05/06/06 Sat
  - Around here when they do that, all they're doing is drilling to different zones. It's common for a wellhead to have more than one casing the each casing produces from anywhere from the most shallow to the very deepest zones. Those zones will be under the same name but each zone will follow the well name. They are now drilling to new zones around here and finding untapped sources of gas. (NT) -- Hap, 10:35:54 05/06/06 Sat
    - Do they move the rig over and start a new hole or do they change directions on the way down? It looks to me like each well should have to be a different hole. In the Barnett Shale they drill down to the shale and then turn and drill a horizontal leg using a different type of bit. Each of the wells will have several legs in the shale and I am told that over time, the fracture will close and they'll just go in and fracture in a different direction.
