She felt his eyes watching her, but she gritted her teeth and resisted the urge to turn and look. But still she saw him from the corner of her eye, her fingers tangled in Feather's mane tightly. Not a need, but she wanted something to squeeze... her eyes drifted to a fire pit, then to the forest, where the creatures were making some noise. She made up her mind and urged Feather into the forest at a canter.
She came back sometime later with two rabbits in her grip, her face as smooth as glass as she dismounted her gelding, kissing the roan's nose tenderly. She skinned and gutted the rabbits at the edge of the forest, going off and burying the remains someways off before she returned. Then she stretched the skins high up on branches, wanting to tan them. The meat she impaled with sharp sticks and brought over to the fire, starting it up with two rocks and some sticks she had collected. Her practiced hands placed the meat above the fire, and soon it was giving off a tantalizing aroma. She nodded to Legolas, inviting him to join her.
