As salaamu alaykum,
I want to know what is the reason that a muslim women has to put a stipulation in the marriage contract regarding Polygamy (meaning she does not want it),if a women can divorce a man for no reason, and just give the mahr back? I know that it is the most hated of permissable things, but why does a sister have to write it out when a man can just marry again, it is his right? Does a sister get more, if she stipulates this? I know there is no such thing as alimony, a man just takes care of his kids. I pray I have asked this question clearly.

As Saalamu Alaikoum,

If you are asking can a Muslim woman put in her marriage contract that the husband can not take another wife then the answer is Yes. If the man agrees to this does he have to honor it, the answer is Yes and what this means is if he agrees to this and marries the woman and then decides he wants another wife, the woman has the right to divorce him for violating their marriage agreement.

However one thing you need to remember. This contract is only valid if the man agrees to it and most men will not agree to this.

Polygamy is a part of Islam and there is much good in it. People need to focuss on its good and leave alone the bad.
