As salaam alaikoem,
As far as i now, the hair on private parts and under the arm has to be removed within 30 or 40 days. My question: I want to now how sholar think about this. The beart of a man shout not be shaved, because he imitated the disbelievers, but also it's the creation of a men.
Then what is the meaning of shaving hair on privat parts or under the arms. We also are created that way by Allah (swt). Is it because it is better for cleaning? And why then Allah created us on these parts with hair? The question is not to searching a way for shaving a beard or something, it's just i want to now and follow Islam as good as i can, but there are questions in my mind and i would like to have them explaned. Another question: May a woman shave her legs?

As salaam alaikoem,

Question is about shortening the salat.
for exemple: i'm a traveller and i go visit a friend at his home. Can we do the praying together when i do 2 rakat.
And if it is possible,
for exemple: that the traveller is the oldest, can he lead the praying, when he's doing two rakaat and his friend has to do 4.

Al salaam 3aleikum wa rahmatullahi wa baraktum

I have a couple of questions which I have not been able to get the answers to. First of all I was wondering, how after we saw The prophet Muhammad's (pbuh) name, why people say salla allah 3aleihi wa sallam, and why they don't say that to other prophets, maybe people do say that after their name's but I have never heard it before.

The second question I have is if there were any anbia, or rosool (prophets or messangers) in the seven centuries between, sayidinah muhammed and sayidinah Isa (pbuth) that are known to muslims in the quran and hadith?

Thank you very much for your time
Al-salamu 3aleikum.

As salaam alaikoem,

I read that the Profet (saws) use to do the woedoe before he was going asleep. Before he sleeps he use to said a few verses of the Qor'aan ... . When he (saws) had intercource with one of his wifes he (saws)sometimes did the gusl or did the woedoe before sleeping. My question, when he (saws) did not gusl, but woedoe, did he (saws) recite a few verses from the Qor'aan before sleeping or not or is this allowed? Are there ahadieth to find about?

“Rasulullah (Sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam), said, ‘When any one of you prostrates, let him not go down as the camel does; let him put
his hands down before his knees.’” [Reported by Imaam Ahmad, Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi, and al-Nisai with a jayyid isnaad.] Waa’il ibn Hajar (Radhiallahu Án), who said: “I saw Rasulullah (Sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam), when he did Sujood, putting his
knees down before his hands, and when he got up he raised his hands before his knees.” [Reported by Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi, al-Nisai, Ibn Maajah and
al-Daaraqutni and Ibn al-Qayyim classified it as Sahih in Zaad al-Ma’aad]
Also shaikh Al-Albani thinks that a person should put his hands first on the ground when prostrating and shaikhs Bin Baz and Ibn Uthaymeen say knees first. So what is the correct way shaikh?
And my next question is: How a person should support himself when standing up to the next rakaah in prayer? To clench his fists the way boxers do and support himself on the ground or to support on ground or on your knees using palms of your hands (hands with stretched fingers similar when prostrating)?

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: it seems that the Sunnah is to place the right hand on the left forearm, because of the general meaning of the hadeeth of Sahl ibn Sa’d which was narrated by al-Bukhaari: “The people were commanded that a man should put his right hand on his left forearm when praying.” If you look at the general meaning of this hadeeth you will note that it says “when praying,” not “when standing”. Thus it will be clear that when standing after rukoo’ it is prescribed to put (the right hand on the left forearm), because when bowing (rukoo’) the hands are placed on the knees, and when prostrating they are placed on the ground, and when sitting they are placed on the thighs. But when standing – which includes standing both before and after rukoo’ – a person should place his right hand on his left forearm.
So is this the correct view or a peson should let his hands hang down the sides?

A muslim I was speaking with insisted that there is a difference in the lawfulness (Halal/Zabiha) of poultry and red meat.

Are all poultry (example: Chicken, Turkey, etc..)zabiha (whether or not they are slaughtered in a Halal/Zabiha manner) and is red meat zabiha if slaughtered in a Halal/Zabiha manner?

My questions concerns the story of the reversion of Umar ibn Al Khattab to Islam. We have all heard this story many times but I have recently read that this story is not authentic. Is this true the author in his book references Al Seerah An Nabawiyyah Al Saheehah by Ibrahim al Ali who says that there is no authentic chain to support this story. Jazakum Allah khairan ya sheikh.

The Introduction and Decision (© Aminah Assilmi. Published by Islamic Research and Information Foundation)

I was completing a degree in Recreation, when I met my first Muslims. It was the first year that we had been able to pre-register by computer. I preregistered and went to Oklahoma to take care of some family business. The business took longer than expected, so I returned to school two weeks into the semester (too late to drop a course).

I wasn't worried about catching up my missed work. I was sitting at the top of my class, in my field. Even as a student, I was winning awards, in competition with professionals.

Now, you need to understand that while I was attending college and excelling, ran my own business, and had many close friends, I was extremely shy. My transcripts actually had me listed as severely reticent. I was very slow to get to know people and rarely spoke to anyone unless was forced to, or already knew them. The classes I was taking has to do administration and city planning, plus programming for children. Children were the only people I ever felt comfortable with.

Well, back to the story. The computer printout held one enormous surprise for me. I was registered for a Theatre class...a class were I would be required to perform in front of real live people. I was horrified! I could not even ask a question in class, how was I going to get on a stage in front of people? My husband was his usual very calm and sensible self. He suggested that I talk to the teacher, explain the problem, and arrange to paint scenery or sew costumes. The teacher agreed to try and find a way to help me out. So I went to class the following Tuesday.

When I entered the classroom, I received my second shock. The class was full of 'Arabs' and 'camel jockeys'. Well, I had never seen one but I had heard of them.

There was no way I was going to sit in a room full of dirty heathens! After all, you could catch some dreadful disease from those people. Everyone knew they were dirty, not to be trusted either. I shut the door and went home. (Now, there is one little thing you should know. I had on a pair of leather hot pants, a halter top, and a glass of wine in my hands...but they were the bad ones in my mind.)

When I told my husband about the Arabs in the class and that there was no way i was going back, he responded in his usual calm way. He reminded that I was always claiming that God had a reason for everything and maybe I should spend some time thinking about it before I made my final decision. He also reminded me that I had a scholars award that was paying my tuition and if I wanted to keep it, I would have to maintain my G.P.A.. Three credit hours or 'F' would have destroyed my chances.

For the next two days, I prayed for guidance. On Thursday I went back to the class convinced that God had put me there to save those poor ignorant heathens from the fires of hell.

I proceeded to explain to them how they would burn in the fires of hell for all eternity, if they did not accept Jesus as their personal savior. They were very polite, but did not convert. Then, I explained how Jesus loved them and had died on the cross to save them from their sins. All they had to do was accept him into their hearts. They were very polite, but still did not convert. So, I decided to read their own book to show them that Islam was a false religion and Mohammed was a false God.

One of the students gave me a copy of the Qur'an and another book about Islam, and I proceeded with my research. I was sure I would find the evidence I needed very quickly. Well, I read the Qur'an and the other book. Then I read another 15 books, Sahih Muslim and returned to the Qur'an. I was determined I would convert them! My studies continued for the next one and half years.

During that time, I started having a few problems with my husband. I was changing, just in little ways but enough to bother him. We used to go to the bar every Friday and Saturday, or to a party, and I no longer wanted to go. I was quieter and more distant. He was sure I was having an affair, so he kicked me out. I moved into an apartment with my children and continued my determined efforts to convert the Muslims to Christianity.

The, one day, there was a knock on my door. I opened the door and saw a man in a long white night gown with a red and white checkered table cloth on his head. He was accompanied by three men in pajamas. (It was the first time I had ever seen their cultural dress.) Well, I was more than a little offended by men showing up at my door in night clothes. What kind of a woman did they think I was? Had they no pride or dignity? Imagine my shock when the one wearing the table cloth said he understood I wanted to be a Muslim! I quickly informed him I did not want to be a Muslim. I was Christian. However, I did have a few questions. If he had the time....

His name was Abdul-Aziz Al-Shiek and he made the time. He was very patient and discussed every question with me. He never made me feel silly or that a question was stupid. He asked me if I believed there was only one God and I said yes. Then he asked if I believed Mohammed was His Messenger. Again I said yes. He told me that I was already a Muslim!.

I argued that I was Christian, I was just trying to understand Islam. (Inside I was thinking: I couldn't be a Muslim! I was American and white! What would my husband say? If I am Muslim, I will have to divorce my husband. My family would die!)

We continued talking. Later, he explained that attaining knowledge and understanding of spirituality was a little like climbing a ladder. If you climb a ladder and try to skip a few rungs, there was danger of falling. The Shahadah was just the first step on the ladder. Still we had to talk some more.

Later that afternoon, May 21, 1977 at Asr', I took Shahadah. However, there were still some things I could not accept and it was my nature to be completely truthful so i added a disclaimer. I said: "I bear witness that there is no god but God and Mohammed is His Messenger" 'but, I will never cover my hair and if my husband takes another wife, I will castrate him.'

I heard gasps from the other men in the room, but Abdul Aziz silenced them. Later I learned that he told the brothers never to discuss those two subjects with me. He was sure I would come to the correct understanding.

The Shahadah was indeed a solid footing on the ladder to spiritual knowledge and closeness to God. but it has been a slow climb. Abdul Aziz continued to visit me and answer my questions. May Allah reward him for his patience and tolerance. He never admonished me or acted like a question was stupid or silly. He treated each question with dignity and told me that the only stupid question was the one never asked. Hmmm...my grandmother used to say that.

He explained that Allah ahd told us to seek knowledge and questions were one of the ways to accomplish that. When he explained something, it was like watching a rose open - petal by petal, until it reached its full glory. When I told him that I did not agree with something and why, he always said I was correct up to a point. The he would show me how to look deeper and from different directions to reach a fuller understanding. Alhamdulillah!

Over the years, I had many teachers. Each one special, each one different. I am thankful for each one of them and the knowledge they gave. Each teacher helped me to grow and to love Islam more. As my knowledge increased, the changes in me became more apparent. Within the first year, I was wearing hijab. I have no idea when I started. It came naturally, with increased knowledge and understanding. In time I even came to to a proponent of polygamy. I knew that if Allah had allowed it, there had to be something good in it.

"Glorify the name of thy Guardian - Lord Most High, Who hath created, and further, given order and proportion; Who hath measured, and granted guidance; and Who bringeth out the (green and lush) pasture, and doth make it (but) swarthy stubble, By degrees shall We teach thee (The Message), so thou shalt not forget, except as Allah wills: for He knoweth what is manifest and what is hidden. And We will make it easy for thee (to follow) the simple (path)." (Al-A'la 87:1-8)

When I first started to study Islam, I did not expect to find anything that I needed or wanted in my personal life. Little did I know that Islam would change my life. No human could have ever convinced me that I would finally be at peace and overflowing with love and joy because of Islam.

This book spoke of THE ONE GOD, THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE. It described the beautiful way in which He had organised the world. This wondrous Qur'an had all the answers. Allah is The Loving! Allah is the Source of Peace! Allah is the Protector! Allah is the Forgiver! Allah is the Provider! Allah is the maintainer! Allah is the Generous One! Allah is the Responsive! Allah is the Protecting Friend! Allah is the Expander!

"Have we not expanded thee thy breast? And removed from thee thy burden the which did gall thy back? And raised high the esteem (in which) thou (art held)? So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief: Verily, with every difficulty there is relief!" (Al-Ishirah, 94: 1-6)

The Qur'an addressed all the issues of existence and showed a clear path to success. It was like a map forgiving, an owner manual for life!

How Islam changed my Life

"How much more we love the light...If once we lived in Darkness."

When I first embraced Islam, I really did not think it was going to affect my life very much. Islam did not just affect my life. It totally changed it.

Family life: My husband and I loved each other very deeply. That love for each other still exists. Still, when I started studying Islam, we started having some difficulties. He saw me changing and did not understand what was happening. Neither did I. But then, I did not even realise I was changing. He decided that the only thing that could make me change was another man. There was no way to make him understand what was changing me because I did not know.

After I realised that I was a Muslim, it did not help matters. After all...the only reason a woman changes something as fundamental as her religion is another man. He could not find evidence of this other man...but he had to exist. We ended up in a very ugly divorce. The courts determined that the unorthodox religion would be detrimental to the development of my children. So they were removed from my custody.

During the divorce, there was a time when I was told I could make a choice. I could renounce this religion and leave with my children, or renounce my children and leave with my religion. I was in shock. To me this was not a possible choice. If I renounce my Islam....I would be teaching my children how to be deceptive. For there was no way to deny what was in my heart. I could not deny Allah, not then, not ever. I prayed like I had never prayed before. After the thirty minutes was up, I knew that there was no safer place for my children to be than in the hands of Allah. If I denied him, there would be no way in the future to show my children the wonders of being with Allah. The courts were told that I would leave my children in the hands of Allah. This was not a rejection of my children!

I left the courts knowing that life without my babies would be very difficult. My heart bled, even though I knew, inside, I had done the right thing. I found solace in Ayat-Ul-Khursi.

"Allah! There is no god but He - the Living, the Self-subsisting, Supporter of all. No slumber can seize him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth? He knoweth what (appeareth to His creatures as) Before or After or Behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and he feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is Most High, The Supreme (in Glory)." (Al-Baqarah, 2:255)

This also got me started looking at all the attributes of Allah and discovering the beauty of each one.

Child custody and divorce were not the only problems I was to face. The rest of my family was not very accepting of my choice either. Most of the family refused to have anything to do with me. My mother was of the belief that it was just a phase and I would grow out of it. My sister, the 'mental health expert' was sure I had simply lost my mind and should be institutionalised. My father believed I should be killed before placed myself deeper in Hell. Suddenly I found myself with no husband and no family. What would be next?

Friends: Most of my friends drifted away during that first year. I was no fun anymore. I did not want to go to parties or bars. I was not interested in finding a boyfriend. All I ever did was read that book (the Qur'an) and talk about Islam. What a bore. I still did not have enough knowledge to help them understand why Islam was so beautiful.

Employment: My job was next to go. While I had won just about every award there was in my field and was recognised as a serious trend setter and money maker, the day I put on hijab, was the end of my job. Now I was without a family, without friends and without a job.

In all this, the first light was my grandmother. She approved of my choice and joined me. What a surprise! I always knew she had alot of wisdom, but this! She died soon after that. When I stop to think about it, I almost get jealous. The day she pronounced Shahadah, all her misdeeds had been erased, while her good deeds were preserved. She died so soon after accepting Islam that I knew her 'BOOK' was bound to be heavy on the good side. It fills me with such joy!

As my knowledge grew and I was better able to answer questions, many things changed. But, it was the changes made in me as a person that had the greatest impact. A few years after I went public with my Islam, my mother called me and said she did not know what this 'Islam thing' was, but she hoped I would stay with it. She liked what it was doing for me. A couple of years after that she called again and asked what a person had to do to be a Muslim. I told her that all person had to do was know that there was only ONE God and Mohammed was His Messenger. Her response was: "Any fool knows that. But what do you have to do?" I repeated the same information and she said: "Well...OK. But let's not tell your father just yet."

Little did she know that he had gone through the same conversation a few weeks before that. My real father (the one who thought I should be killed) had done it almost two months earlier. Then, my sister, the mental health person, she told me that I was the most 'liberated' person she knew. Coming from her that was the greatest compliment I could have received.

Rather than try to tell you about how each person came to accept Islam, let me simply say that more members of my family continue to find Islam every year. I was especially happy when a dear friends, Brother Qaiser Imam, told me that my ex-husband took Shahdah. When Brother Qaiser asked him why, he said it was because he had been watching me for 16 years and he wanted his daughter to have what I had. He came and asked me to forgive him for all he had done. I had forgiven him long before that.

Now my oldest son, Whittney, has called, as I am writing this book, and announced that he also wants to become Muslim. He plans on taking the Shahadah as the ISNA Convention in a couple of weeks. For now, he is learning as much as he can. Allah is The Most Merciful.

Over the years, I have come to be known for my talks on Islam, and many listeners have chosen to be Muslim. My inner peace has continued to increase with my knowledge and confidence in the Wisdom of Allah. I know that Allah is not only my Creator but, my dearest friend. I know that Allah will always be there and will never reject me. For every step I take toward Allah, He takes 10 toward me. What a wonderful knowledge.

True, Allah has tested me, as was promised, and rewarded me far beyond what I could ever have hoped for. A few years ago, the doctors told me I had cancer and it was terminal. They explained that there was no cure, it was too far advanced, and proceeded to help prepare me for my death by explaining how the disease would progress. I had maybe one year left to live. I was concerned about my children, especially my youngest. Who would take care of him? Still I was not depressed. We must all die. I was confident that the pain I was experiencing contained Blessings.

I remembered a good friend, Kareem Al-Misawi, who died of cancer when he was still in his 20's. Shortly before he died, he told me that Allah was truly Merciful. This man was in unbelievable anguish and radiating with Allah's love. He said: "Allah intends that I should enter heaven with a clean book." His death experience gave me something to think about. He taught me of Allah's love and mercy. This was something no one else had ever really discussed. Allah's love!

I did not take me long to start being aware of His blessings. Friends who loved me came out of nowhere. I was given the gift of making Hag. Even more importantly, I learned how very important it was for me to share the Truth of Islam with everyone. It did not matter if people, Muslim or not, agreed with me or even liked me. The only approval I needed was from Allah. The only love I needed was from Allah. Yet, I discovered more and more people, who for no apparent reason, loved me. I rejoiced, for I remembered reading that if Allah loves you, He causes others to love you. I am not worthy of all the love. That means it must be another gift from Allah. Allah is the Greatest!

There is no way to fully explain how my life changed. Alhamdulillah! I am so very glad that I am a Muslim. Islam is my life. Islam is the beat of my heart. Islam is the blood that courses through my veins. Islam is my strength. Islam is my life so wonderful and beautiful. Without Islam, I am nothing and should Allah ever turn His magnificent face from me I could not survive.

"O Allah! let my heart have light, and my sight have light, and my hearing (senses) have light, and let me have light on my right, and let me have light on my left, and let me have light above me, and have light under me, and have light in front of me, and have light behind me; and let me have light." (Bukhari, vol. 8. pp. 221, #329)

"Oh my Lord! Forgive my sins and my ignorance and my exceeding the limits (boundaries of righteousness) in all my deeds and what you know better than I. O Allah! Forgive my mistakes, those done intentionally or out of my ignorance or (without) or with seriousness, and I confess that all such mistakes are done by me. Oh Allah! Forgive my sins of the past and of the future which i did openly or secretly. You are the One who makes the things go before, and You are the One who delays them, and You are the Omnipotent." (Bukhari, vol. , pp. 271, #407).

As Salaamu alaikum,

I was told by another Muslim that the usage of the word but and if when talking about the Quran or the Sunnah of the Prophet come from Shaytan. An example of that is I tell a sister that she should be wearing Hijab because Allah says so and she says Yes, I know but Allah knows my intention. I hope that I have explained that right??? I just wanted to know if there was Daleel on that.

As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatuallah wa barakatuh

My question is concerning the depiction of any Prophet in, for example, a stage play or movie. I have heard that in Muslim countries, whenever a Prophet is portrayed in a stage play, he is hidden or perhaps some type of covering is put over him. Is this true? Is it forbidden to have an actor play the part of any Prophet in a stage play showing his face, or must he be covered? Can you please included any Qur'anic verses, Hadith, or Fatwa that might pertain to this subject. Thank you. Jazakallah Khair.

Assalamu Alaikum

I was under the impression and was told that it is mandatory for everyone to go to Eid prayer, including menstrating women although they do not pray. The following hadith was the proof given.

It was narrated that Umm ‘Atiyyah said: "We were commanded to go out on the day of Eid, even to bring out the virgins from their seclusion and the menstruating women, who would be behind the people, joining in their takbeer and du’aa’s, sharing the blessings of this day." (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, al-Jumu’ah, 918)

Now I am being told, it is not fard but sunnah for women to go to the Eid prayer. Saying this is the meaning of the hadith. Please help me clarify this situation. Is it mandatory or not for everyone to attend Eid prayers?

As salaamu alaykum,
From "the fragile vessels" By Muhammad al-Jibaly

Aishah reported that one night she could not find the prophet (saw) next to her. Then she found him praying so she passed her fingers through his hair (to see if he had showered). He said "Your devil has surely come to you". She asked "O Allah's messenger? Do you not have a devil?" He relied "Yes indeed, but Allah helped me against him so that he embraced Islam"
Recorded by an-Nasa i. Verified to be authentic bu al-Albani (sahihu sunan in-Nasa i Number 3696)

My question is, what did Aishah do, that cause Muhammad (saw) to say that? What was her intention by running her hand thru his hair?

Salaam...
I'm 21, hijabi, living in New York, working at a reputable software company and finishing up college in May. My father doesn't live here and hasn't been supporting my financials, and everything that I've wanted in order to complete my education. I have worked ever since the age of 17 to pull myself through college and make myself a "somebody" and achieve something in life.

Obviously, living in a country like the US, and working .. has opened my eyes to a whole new world. I am still obedient to my parents and listen to whatever they say but there are certain things that agitate me and it's not in my plate to handle it.

I had always agreed that I would marry whomever my parents choose. However, I also said; I would not marry someone for his money ... I would want to marry someone who is a loving human being and will encourage my hijab and want me to learn and educate myself ..

Back in February, a proposal came from a guy who had recently come from Pakistan and he was taking his Kaplan and all the necessary exams to become a Dr. He successfully passed, proposed and I just didn't like him at first sight. Neither did my mother. I tried giving him another chance, however, my heart wasn't ready to commit .. maybe, commit with HIM? I'm not ready ... However, I went to Pakistan over the summer and got engaged...not happy..miserable. Though my parnts say that I decieved them by being happy..How could one not be hapy when he/she gets all the attention?

I came back..and neverspoke to my fiance. That lit the fire and he called one night and got angry and yelled at me. I got scared and petrified..ddin't want to talk to him. He apolgized via e-card...i didn't respond b/c I didnt want this happening to me and I just ignored it.

I failed, I cried, I was miserable everywhere...I just want to know..that doI have a right to not marry him b/c I dont' like him..I dont know what I dont like about him..I just can't

Please help.

I found this Ahadith on an Islamic question and answer website. I visited another site which stated that the translation of this Ahadith is incorrect, the correct translation is that the prophets wives (ra) used to tie their hair until it was below their ears. Can you clarify as to which opinion is correct if not are there any other hadith that discuss the issue of women cutting their hair

It was narrated in Saheeh Muslim that Abu Salamah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahmaan said: “The wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to cut their hair until it came just below their ears.” (al-Hayd, 481)

He loves me a lot too, but I just want to know if I'm doing anything wrong by loving him? His family knows about me and we "might" get married after I complete my graduation (i'm currently in my 3rd year of university). I did Istekhaara once and after that I had good feeling for him. Do u think I should continue my relationship with him? We have never seen each other, but we love one another just because of the values, morals. etc.

A question came to my mind the other day. Although it is a rather bizarre one, i feel compelled to ask, as we should not feel shy in seeking the knowledge for Allah's Sake alone.
On occasion, women who nurse their children collect and store some of their own breastmilk for the purpose of using at a later time (to use in cases where it would be difficult to breastfeed the children in public) Would it be unlawful for her, or anyone else, to drink of that milk should they fear that it might go to waste?
May Allah benefit us and you by your time and knowledge.

If there is a part of our religion that I don't want to partake in, does that make me a hypocrite? I am not saying that I feel the thing is wrong, but for me, i do not want to be a part of it It is something that is permissable, not obligatory

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah,

Being that there is 4 points to make Takbir, Allahu Akbar, in one's Salah, if one of the Takbir is missed/forgot, does that invalidate the Salah?

For example: I forget to make Takbir before or after Ruku or I forget to make Takbir after rising from the second Rakah (after the first Tashahud).

Do these acts invalidate my Salah?

i wonder if according to islam do women who have intercourse with men have to be stoned to death..some ppl advocate that it is not nice to stone women to death in the 20th century and this punishment must be changed..is there such thing?
another thing is..if the women has to be punished what about the punishment of the men who had intercourse with that women..should he punished too..and how?
I have heard that that kind of punishment is not written in Quran..so where do we learn it?
Can this punishment be replaced with another one
i will be glad if you can give me detailed information about this topic

Assalamu Alaikum Shaykh Morsy,

I have two questions, if I may please.

First, and foremost: If a dog licks your hand, does this break your wudhu?

Second: If the dog's licking does not break your wudhu, then what is the difference between a dog licking your plate for example (when you have to wash it seven times, the first time with mudd if I understand that correctly) and licking your hand?

May Allah (SWT) reward you! Ameen.

I would like to inquire about making money investments in the stock market. It is a proccess where you put your money into a company, buy some of their stock, and depending on how well that company does, your money can either decrease or increase. Is this Haram(forbidden) in Islam? Is it considered a form of gambling? As salaamu alaikum, Jazakallah Khair.

Salaam alaikum--
So it is my understanding from that email that if two people who want to discuss maybe getting married but need to do it through email could do that...

BUT the sister's wali should also read all the correspondence between them and has the right to tell the sister to stop communicating with the brother if he does/says anything inappropriate.

Is this correct?

(Situation here is I could let my guardian supervise, but as far as I know he doesn't use a computer so I'd be the one writing. I live in the middle of nowhere, there's VERY VERY few single brothers here, if any, in the same town as me.)

I heard some Muslims trying to refute christians (which seems to work really well), by saying something like'christians worship a seven horned lamb' or something along those lines/ is this true? if so, could y ou please quote me that particular verse?

And, if such a verse exists, how did the Bible end up from being a Divine Book, to containing such nonsense as trinity, God fighting Jacob(alayhisSalam), etc.

Also, there's a hadith that says if a christian tell us something from the Bible, we should neither deny it, nor affirm it. - in what matters does this relate to, for example, when christians speak of God in such low words - are we allowed to reject this and consider it as false

My question is regarding postmortems, many students studying medecine or other human biology related subjects have to carry out post-mortems (dissect) human bodies or even other creatures.
Someone told me they heard it was Haram, i know that many medical discoveries were made by the muslims many years ago and so they must have done something in order to learn. I would like to know if muslims are allowed to do them as part of their studies? (sometimes it may be optional in the course but this is not always the case).

Also, I am fairly sure that we;re not allowed to have our own bodies cut up or donated after we die, but i could be wrong so please clarify for me.

Salam Shaykh,

I was reading your question about the salaf's methodology. My question is i have found a Jammah in Birmingham (England U.K) were I live. They call themselves Salfi's. I believe they are upon the Huq but these brother's have no manners, character and humbleness in them.

And they say that there are no scholers in the West and they say that Abu Amina Bilal philips, Shuab Hasan, Shaykh Saliih Munajjid, Muhammed Jibaly and Abu Amar Yasir Qadhi are deviants. but the same group are praised by the scholers, scholers like Shaykh Salim Al Hillali, Shaykh Ali Hasan Al Halabi, Shaykh Usama Qoosie, praise their Daw'ah they come to Birmingam in the summer and do talks her.

I am confused, i don't know to what to do?

Shall i stay with this group or stay away from them?
I don't understand why these scholer's praise them when they critise these brother like Bilal Philips, Munajjid, ect.

salamu alaikum,

question about this hadith i found on a christian site (although i heard something similar to the hadith before anyways) - here is the hadith:

Allah's Apostle! Shall we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?"
He said, "Do you crowd and squeeze each other on looking at the sun when it is not hidden by clouds?"
They replied, "No, Allah's Apostle."
He said, "Do you crowd and squeeze each other on looking at the moon when it is full and not hidden by clouds?"
They replied, No, O Allah's Apostle!"
He said, "So you will see Him [your Lord] on the Day of Resurrection similarly Allah will gather all the people... and then only this nation [Muslims] will remain, including their hypocrites. Allah will come to them in a shape other than they know [unexpected way] and will say, 'I am your Lord.'
They will say, 'We seek refuge with Allah from you. This is our place [we will not follow you]; till our Lord comes to us [in the way that we were expecting], and when our Lord comes to us, we will recognize Him.
Then Allah will come to them in a shape they know and will say, "I am your Lord.' They will say, 'You are our Lord,' and they will follow Him. Then a bridge will be laid over the [hell] Fire." Allah's Apostle added, "I will be the first to cross it...."

firstly, is this hadith authenic or did the christians change the words to confuse us or what?; and if so, plz give me the reference to where i can find this hadith. question 1. the ahlus-sunnah belief that allah will be seen on the judgment day, (because allah will Give people of jannah the ability to see him - however, we dont say allah is a body because the verse 'there is nothing like him' negates this - question 2. SEEING allah is the greatest reward for people of jannah, but in this hadith it says that allah will appear to us, but at first we dont recongize him???? (this is very very difficult to understand because seeing Allah is the best gift, but we cant recognize Him????) qeustion 3. the word allah will appear to us in a ''shape'', is very akward word, is this a correct translation? because allah is not a shape: a human body has a shape, but allah is not a body, so, what is the best translation for this??

thank You

Salaam alaikum

Here's the issue: I'm a convert. I was adopted when I was 2 months old. I know I was with another family, not my birth family, from whenever I got out of the hospital until my permanent home was found.

I don't deny being adopted, and I've chosen a different name to go by after converting---does not contain my adopted family's name.

I don't remember what the discussion was here on the website, but one of the users (not a teacher here or a shaykh just some other user) told me I can't do that, that we will go to hell for using names other than that of our birth family. But what about people like, oh....Yusuf Islam?

My question is: Do I have any obligation under Islamic law to find my birth family? Do I have to find their name and use it? And do I have any obligation to pay someone to find them so that I can contact them and try to meet them?

My personal thoughts on paying someone to find them is this: Maybe there is a *reason* I'm not supposed to know who they are and all that. If Allah has willed it that I should not know this, then I'm NOT going to find out, even if I could pay someone a million dollars...that's why I haven't done it.

OK there's a flip side to the question I had earlier about birth parents.

Do I have an obligation to relatives in my 'adopted family' (i.e. the mother who adopted me, her brothers and sisters or my father's sons from another marriage)?

I understand I should treat the people who raised me like I would treat my birth parents. But their relatives---do I have any obligations to maintain ties with them or anything like that?

I ask because since I converted, a couple of them have said some very negative things, and my father's son from his first marriage has recently been trying to cause trouble between me and my parents and moved to making threatening phone calls to me, things like that. Do I HAVE TO maintain ties with these people?

Assalam Alaykum,

I have a question that is very important to me and will highly appreciate if I get your detailed answer.

My 1st question.
I'm jobless, and an opportunity has come for working in a non-islamic bank. I'm very much worried to join because I'm not certain whether it is haram or halal to work in non-islamic banks. I'm woried because if my money/earnings will be haram, then it's simple to understand that all whatever I'll purchase, and even when I want to marry, all will be haram! Probably my Swalah and other ibadats will not be accepted while putting on haram clothes etc!

My 2nd question.
In regard to the same above, is there any conflict "Ikhtilaf" between scholars as to whether working in non-islamic banks is haram or halal? If yes, then what do they say? I mean for both the one who says its haram (on what grounds) and halal (on what grounds).

My 3rd question.
As my personal opinion with the little knowledge I have is that working in such banks is haram I rejected the job. Now some of my relatives/friends are against me why I rejected such a good offer? I told them I'm not for high salary only but it has to be earned in a halal manner, as simple as that. They say its halal,... on the grounds that, they say and many people say, today working anywhere is haram in the sense that almosy all companies purchase their goods/services through taking loans from the bak and repaying with interest and hence the workers of those companies after it has made profit, they earn their salary in a haram way. Well that is not a reason to me just to work in a haram place because all is haram, besides I don't beleive that all companies are haram!

Wa Billahi Tawfiq, wa Jazakallahu kheir.

Thank you for your previuos answer

Salam,

What has helping the muslims in iraq got to do with politics?

Did not the Prophet (pbuh) say that my ummah is like one body when a part of it hurt the rest feel it. and there are also other hadeeth is well.

Should we not make dua to these brother and sisters in Iraq.

O shaykh am i wrong that the oppressed people's dau is accepted. What if they make a dua against the muslims for not helping.

Is it true a dua of an oppressed is answered by Allah? So should we not fear the dua of the oppressed for not helping them?

Allah says in the Qur'an that you love your families, friends, business and ect more then striving in Allah and His Messengers cause? then Allah says you wait. What does Allah mean you wait?

This is a sincer question and i will not ask any more questions after this.

My question is kind of ironic. I would like to know what ability the Muslim has to question things concernig the religion. I have been Muslim for some seven years now. Before my reversion to Islam, I was Christian. The ideology in Christianity of not being able to question things, even the things you do not understand, is something that certainly repelled me, and many, from the religion. I have read time and time again in the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammed(saws), as well as the Qur'an, that it is highly recommended that the Muslim should "seek knowledge". To my understanding, and Allah knows best, the best way to learn something, or gain "knowledge", is to ask a question. I have come to understand that there is two extremes in the Muslim Umm'ah. One extreme is to question everything, even if you understand it, question it anyway. The other extreme is to question nothing. Even if you do not understand something, never question it. Some treat questions as though the Muslim asking the question has commited Shirk Al-Akbar. Where is the middle ground? Is it alright to question, and to get at the philosophy of why something is said in the Hadith and Qur'an? Where is the "line" for asking questions in Islam? Are there things we are not supposed to question? Thank you. Jazakallah Khair.

If America attacks Saddam Hussain and the muslims in Iraq. What is the job of the ummah to help the muslims especially those muslim countries around Iraq.

WHAT IS THE JOB OF THE UMMAH TO HELP THE MUSLIMS IN IRAQ IF AMERICA ATTACKS?

Continued from my first posting, I did not purchase any life insurance. My son was in the Navy, he had life insurance and left me as the sole beneficiary. I had no knowledge of this until after his death. Now I need to know how to deal with the interest. When it comes to this matter I am clueless. Please reply As soon as possible as the interest is growing and I don't know what to do.

As-salaamum Alaikum

My son recently passed away and had me down on his life insurance policy. I received a large amount of money. As I am a fairly new Muslim, I know next to nothing about interest what's right and what's wrong. I was told to give 2.5% zakat. What do i do with the interest that is collecting on the money that is in the bank? How can I have the money and not collect interest? Am I able to invest the money for future security? Please answer as soon as possible, I don't know what to do.

salam,i have a couple of questions i would like to inquire about.

i live in the uk and i would like to know if we can eat things with geletine in them because somebody told me that you can eat geletine but if it says in brackets next to it that it is from a pig, only then u cannot eat it. is this correct because i have never seen food with geletine and in brackets something written next to it?

also, i was wondering, if we know we will not be able to read prayers in the day, and we read them before, what do we say in the starting of the prayers? that we are reading in the intention of the whole days missed prayers or what?

thank u very much

My question is concerning pictures. I have read many hadith concerning the subject of pictures, and all of them are very clear. The Prophet(saws) has forbiden muslims from having pictures of people and animals in their home. But all of the hadith I have read points to those pictures being displayed in the home. Is it forbiden to possess pictures at all? Even if they are not on display? I have pictures of family, and I even have Islamic videos that have the picture of the speaker on the front of them. Is this forbiden?

Assalamu Alaikum,
There is alot of controversy in my country over the issue of Shari'ah especially pertaining to the evidence of zina. About 5 sentences on stoning were passed recently. What I want to know is the Hadith which rules that a pregnancy can be carried for 4years. This is the argument used mostly now. Since the maximum Iddah period is 3 periods or months we are all confused.
Assalamu Alaikum.

Subject: The Qu'ran and the end times?

First off, let me premise this with the fact that I am a Christian, and seeking the truth from all sources. I did not come here to convert anyone to anything, but am seeking answers from the educated Islamic community.

I have a basic understanding of what the Christian bible says about the end times in Revelation about Christ coming back to claim his people and loose Satan, etc, etc.; but I would be curious to know what the Qu'ran says about the end times? Is there a rapture? What happens when all is said and done according to what you believe?

Also, I would like to know if you consider Mohammad a "Messiah" such as the Christian considers Jesus God incarnate. I also am told that the Muslim does not believe that Jesus was resurrected from the dead to atone for the sins of the world.

How does a Muslim atone for their sins? How do you gain eternal life?

I hope my message is not intrusive, and certainly hope that I am not offending anyone by posting here. Your answers to these questions would be greatly appreciated.

God's richest blessings to you.
